Ovarian cyst and pains on the wrong side!

I'm really confused.
Had a MC in the summer which was a suspected ectopic pregnancy - I had sharp, almost unbearable pains on my left hand side and copious bleeding. The scan picked up that it wasn't an ectopic pregancy, but the sonographer spotted a cyst (unfortunately didn't say how big it was at the time, but I wasn't in a great state emotionally so probably wouldn't have taken it in even if they had).

Fast-forward a few months and I'm now getting sharp pains in my left side, no bleeding at all, and pregnancy test came out as negative. GP had a run over my abdomen and confirmed it was likely to be the cyst, so sent me for a scan.

Unsurprisingly the scan revealed that the cyst was still there, and this time the size was confirmed at 5cm. The pain has now spread a bit and become a general period-pain like cramp, which is worse when I'm sitting down and can be quite sharp. The pain is still a lot worse on the left hand side.

Imagine my surprise to find out that the cyst was on the right-hand side.. GP has referred me to a gynaecologist but I'll have a bit of a wait for that. Has anyone had a cyst which causes pain on the other side? The scan was both ultrasound and internal so I would hope that something like fibroids would have been picked up - but not sure now!

Sorry to hear about your MC Flowers

I have / had a couple of endometriomas and my pain has always been on the reverse side - one explanation is that it pushes stuff on the opposite side out, with the actual side being a bit protected (if that makes any sense at all!).

One thing that has helped with the pain is Buscopan, taken with painkillers it definitely reduces the symptoms. I am too heavy for surgery, and have endometriosis which complicates things for me, but hopefully your gynae will sort you out soon!

I had cysts on both my ovaries last year, the pain I had was mostly on the right side. Ultrasound scan didn't show much so I had an MRI scan - my left Fallopian tube was dilated due to cysts. I had a laparoscopy and my tube was removed due to the cysts - apparently like a bunch of grapes - nice. I did have a small cyst on the right side, where most of the pain was but, as I said it wasn't big. Once the left tube was out, the right pain went - hope this helps.
