Hi

I need some quick support. During bath time my partner had a very sudden seizure. He was talking to the baby and made a strange noise and started to slump to floor. I worked with children with epilepsy so went into auto pilot and made him and baby safe.

Now it's over and he's fine I'm terrified. We've called the out of hours team and I've got him resting and safe while I settle little one.

Has anyone experienced this or have any helpful advice? Obviously drs first thing but I'm now struggling to think straight.

It's very different seeing someone you love fit to someone in your care. I

I've had 3 grand mal seizures in my life spanning a time-period of 19 years. I don't take any medication and my last grand mal seizure happened when I was pregnant with DS now 6. Consultant talked to me about being safe with a baby. Change on the floor instead of a changing table, don't bathe yourself or baby whilst on your own, don't sleep with baby. Most of it is just common sense really. After all my seizures I've slept 18-20 hours for 4-5 days. This is very common.

Depending on his job he might have to talk to his Occupational Health Dept and again if his diagnosis is epilepsy they may have to make some adjustments to his job. I'm not allowed to work alone which isn't really a problem in my job

I'm going to dr with him. He actually asked that I do so I can describe what I saw. I think he's probably just trying to down play everything

Yes, he'll be scared Katie. And so are you. Anyone would be. He'll need full investigation 'just in case' but, hopefully, it will turn out to be a one-off.

Please let us know how you get on.

Glad he was ok overnight. Men are stubborn over doctors-in my experience that is about the fear of what they will be told.

Make sure doc knows history of strokes and about altered speech. Most likely all exams will come up clear-they really often do for things like this-but until you get all clear keep with all the precautions about baby care, baths etc. And take care of you!

Yes sorry, went to bed early- as charitymum explained, aspirin in case of potential stroke. Unless contraindicated will do no harm and could be a lot of help in event of stroke.

Source: I hang around with a lot of doctors.
