Diagnose me and/or suggest which is the best type of consultant to ask for (back problems)

I last had my back problems looked at around 10 years ago and the diagnoses was a broken cocsyx (tailbone) that I could have an operation on but there were no guarantees. I didn't actually agree with it, unable to see it on X ray and so on.

Issues are:

  1. Back goes "ping" and becomes v painful as a result of a small activity (e.g. pulling out a heavy dining chair.
  2. Always happens during or around my period time (these are now beginning to decrease as I am menopausal age - early 50s)
  3. Always hurts on one side only.
  4. Leg on that side is always slightly painful, sometimes it "buzzes".
  5. The skin on that leg is much more sensitive to touch to the other leg.
  6. I originally hurt my back when I was 17 turning over in bed.
  7. I see a chiropractor once a month - this has been helping but now not so much.
  8. I have a constant sore neck too when I turn it, especially to the left.
  9. When I have an episode it gets better within a few days with combination of resting in bed and walking around. I also use ice on it.
10. If I am stressed it is worse (don't like to admit that one). 11. I don't do organised exercise/sports - too scared with will set me off but do exercises twice a day as advised by chiropractor. I do walk quite a bit though.

I will go to the GP and see what he suggests but :

Anyone have anything similar? Did it get better?
Could it be from my left hip?
Is it a gynae issue?

I am fed up with cancelling my plans.

Ever had an MRI?

A physiotherapist may be able to diagnose more and I think they can refer you on if private if not you need a gp referral. Sounds like something might be pressing on the nerves into your leg as I had the same leg problems when I slipped a disc.

Hi, Thanks.

I had an MRI about 10 years ago and they said about the broken Coccxyx (sp?). I suppose if they say that again I might consider an op.

Does anyone thing that the timing with period is significant?

Maybe just that you get more aches and pains at that time of the month so maybe just makes you more sensitive to it. Sure they would do another mri to see what's going on and then hopefully you can get it sorted. Not nice living with back pain.
