Glandular fever

I was diagnosed with glandular fever yesterday and am really, really struggling. Everything hurts. I can barely walk and am swinging between shaking with cold and perspiring so much I'm soaking the bed, yuk.

Has anyone else had this as an adult? How long did it take you to recover and did you find anything that helped with the symptoms?

TIA

Rest, rest and lots more rest.

Glandular fever is horribly draining and unfortunately the tiredness can last for months. For your aches and temperature use paracetamol and ibuprofen, use them as control - so on a strict time table ibuprofen, then paracetamol, then more ibuprofen etc.

If it has come after tonsillitis, ice poles work wonders or fruit based lollies rather than ice cream which can make your throat claggy.

Warm baths work wonders for all over pain, and make you feel nicer after high temperatures. But, rest is the most important, if you can curl up in pyjamas on the sofa with a mountain of films to get through, there is very little else you can or should do.

I hope you feel better soon.

Couple of weeks to get over the initial symptoms (shocking bad throat) but the fatigue lasted for nearly two years. Don't be surprised if you feel really tired for absolutely ages afterwards, just be kind to yourself and rest as much as possible.

Thanks for your replies. I can't begin to imagine feeling this drained for the next few days, never mind weeks, months or years! Unfortunately I have a boisterous three year old to look after and a partner who, shall we say, is being less than supportive.

Still, we plod on, don't we!

I had it in my early twenties. I was lethargic and bloated with it. Be warned that it will take you several weeks to get over it. I had to go back to work in stages BUT be kind to yourself, rest and you will feel better Flowers
