Hi everyone

I am new to the mumsnet site but desperately wanted to ask other mums/dads if they have any experience of the above.

About 1 month ago my daughter went for her first settling in session at nursery. Approx 3 days later her stools turned very soft and pasty back to the milk day poo's!! I wasn't too concerned but over the last month they have not retuned to normal and on two occasions about 2 weeks apart she has ah a very upset tummy that has lasted about 4/5 days. I have taken her to the doc and all I get told it that is very normal and happens a lot, give her lots of fluid, keep her hydrated, all of that I am doing but it just doesn't seem right that her tummy is so upset, nearly every poo is an outfit change, I changed her three times in an hour yesterday and this morning she woke at 5:30 as she had messed the bed. She is fine in herself, happy as a Larry but I am just concerned that this is not improving and every happy is close to diarrhoea. Some people are telling me this is teething - but for a month???

Is there anyone out there that can offer advice or that has been through the same thing - poor little love her bottom is so sore :(

Thanks in advance folks x

Have you checked exactly what nursery are give ping her to eat and drink? My son developed a lactose intolerance at one stage.

My daughter had this for a few months...

Is she being given any new foods? Cows milk would be my suspicion.

The first thing I would be considering is an intolerance to something shes eating. Did she start having anything different to eat just before or around the time her poo changed, or perhaps she started having more items containing wheat/gluten/lactose and the body can't tolerate that amount. The nursery will be able to give you details of what is given to the children every day and can keep a daily record of what your daughter eats. Unless you can pinpoint something new which may be aggrevating her tummy, then I'd go back to the doctor again as something must be causing the upset. If it continues, ask them if it's worth testing her poo and if nothing comes from this, then perhaps she can be referred for allergy testing.

Thanks everyone Smile

She did start having more milk based dinners/puddings like macaroni cheese and rice pudding and a lot of the Annabel Karnak recipes used milk for the sauce with fish and pastas so I am thinking I need to go back to basics and cut out milk and pasta/wheat and see how she gets on. She had always had cows milk on her weetabix from 6 months and been fine but maybe when the volume of milk was up'd it started affecting her more. I am going to start a food diary, thanks for the tip so I can keep an eye on when she is worst.

Bless her is a diet of mash potato and bananas for a couple of days to see if I can dry her out!!

I am going to take a sample with me to the docs tomorrow and ask them to test it anyway, hopefully they will and that can put my mind at rest re a virus, although that would probably be easier to fix than an Intolerance??

Once she has an intolerance is that forever?

NO, my son was seen at hospital at one stage and coeliacs was mentioned at one stage which was scary. Turned out to be lactose intolerance after a tummy upset. It resolved itself, but took a while...

Thanks Minko, that's good to know .

Bless her she didn't think much of her mash potato dinner tonight! Will have to get cooking tomorrow to get some dinners stashed without milk or wheat!

Thanks again everyone xxSmile
