Does any one have a baby who is lactose intolerent and if so how did you know?

BF works on supply and demand so in theory i guess you could bf for ever.
Honestly if you find it too much to bf for whatever reasons then dont!

Lots of babies have this allergy (supposing) that is the problem) and arent breastfed.
Imo you are not really doing your ds any favours if your'e not happy. Happy mum = happy baby.

hercules · 21/02/2004 16:28

btw have you tried mears or tiktok for this?

charlieplus3 · 21/02/2004 16:32

no i havnt, maybe they will see if on line later

hercules · 21/02/2004 16:54

Tiktok seems to be about on breast and bottle threads

stace · 21/02/2004 17:27

dont know if it is worth a try or not but there is a formula called Hipp Organic im in London so found it easily in organic/health food shops but also in larger Tescos Sainsburys the organic may help

mears · 21/02/2004 17:39

Charlieplus3 - is it Monday you are going to see the doctor? Best to discuss this then. Since your baby seems to have had this response to formula it may well be the problem. Has he had colic too? Blotchy cheeks can come at any time. It may just be that you need a different formula and possibly even a soya one. As you know, I would encourage persisting with breastfeeding but from your posts it sounds as though that is not the option you prefer. You certainly will be able to produce enough milk but if you find that you cannot contemplate that, then there are alternative formulas available. Your doctor will be able to precribe one for you. HTH.

charlieplus3 · 21/02/2004 18:08

Thanx Mears. The Doc is a pead too so hopefully will know. Will b/feed till then. Its just too coincidental that his probs started after introducing the Formula. Gonna try Actimal next or the Hipp organic depending on which tescos stock and depending on what doc says.

Just to let you know that my ds was diagnosed both breast and formula intolerant (cow's). After a lot of investigations he was put onto Neocate on prescription and is now OK. Don't know if it will apply to your ds but the consultant we saw suggested that he wasn't put onto soya as in his opinion babies can start off OK on soya but then develop an intolerance to it. Hope you get some joy with your Dr.

charlieplus3 · 21/02/2004 19:47

do my babies symptoms sound the same as yours josh, or not?

Good luck for tomorrow.
Let us know how it goes.

21stcenturygirl · 22/02/2004 16:43

cp3 - green poo sounds just like my dd2. She is now 3 and I discovered last year that her stomach cannot take cows milk. Everyone used to say how disgusting her poos were. When she was a baby I was at my wits end and knew that this wasn't normal (along with vomitting all the time and constantly changing her clothes). However Docs/HV did not want to know. I found breast milk was the best (only if I didn't drink milk); failing that I tried all the formulars out there and the best, by far, was Hipp Organic.

I'm still trying to get it diagnosed and you're lucky you've got a paed Doc. Good luck for tomorrow.

Joshjunior · 22/02/2004 20:59

Some of his symptoms sound similar - to be honest the wheezing would be difficult for me to tell as ds also has a floppy trachea which makes him sound very noisy whenever he breathes. Green poo is the same and it was very smelly! (by the way, if he goes onto neocate the poo is still green so be warned!)Sorry, I don't think I've been much help here. All I do know is that from the moment he went onto neocate, his vomiting reduced to the 'normal' amount that any baby brings up with a burp rather than bringing up the entire feed. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

charlieplus3 · 22/02/2004 21:09

Just popped in and feel better knowing that this green poo thing is not my imagination, and yes it does stink eally bad. The omneo has made it more runny so just feeding myself till tomorrow.Wheezing is better today, and yes the being sick is only the burp thing now so sounds very similar to joshs and 21stcg.

Cant wait for docs as want to start food weaning. My doc is very good when it comes to kids. Will post tomorrow and let you know what he says.

Docter is certain is lactose imtolerance and not milk or protien allergy, although he says they are all lnked. He is teesting for reducing sugars and infection just in case. Results back by end of week. Fingers crossed they are negative

OP posts:
hercules · 23/02/2004 12:30

At lease you are getting somewhere now.
What did he suggest re weaning and formulas?
How is your little one?

charlieplus3 · 28/02/2004 13:49

Still no news from docs. Results not back yet. They said if it had been important then they would have phoned through fron Hospital to docters. As they say, no news is good news.

Poor Toby, not been himself at all and results taking too long. Tried to fully b/feed again but i cant do it so supplimenting with the Hipp Organic which seems to be making a difference.

The Hipp is Gluten free so we think thats why as his dad had a gluten/lactose free diet.

Thnakyou Stace for reccomending the Hipp. Ill see how it goes over the next week

OP posts:
charlieplus3 · 02/03/2004 21:43

Toby gotta have more tests, so another week to wait. Apperantly the first lot was to rule out any bacyerial problems.

just great cos i love scraping his poo into a pot
