asthma, the hot polluted weather and thunderstorms

Last time it was hot and sticky then stormed, my youngest nearly ended up in hospital with an asthma attack. Was that just dumb luck or is it worse when there's a thunderstorm after it's been like this (very hot with high pollution levels)?

No pressure or anything but if you could let me know right now, I'll drive the car to get him from school (instead of taking the bike and risking the rain - although I do hear thunder....) and make sure he's out of it.

Thanks!

You're right, the incidence of asthma attacks do increase during hot, thundery weather

Thunderstorms are known for asthma attacks, unfortunately

I've just been extra careful I'm taking full doses of preventative inhaler at the moment, which seems to be working as I haven't had so much as a wheeze so far.

If you're concerned, it might be worth ringing the asthma nurse at your surgery and see if she suggests upping the dose of the preventative just until the stormy humid weather has passed us by?

Thanks - she tends to leave it to me to do as and when and I've started up the preventatives again. My eldest has severe food allergies and asthma (not severe asthma, thank goodness) so I've dealt with the symptoms before - she hasn't just left me in the lurch, don't worry (have her mobile even, she's lovely). Just wanted to know if I was nuts worrying about thunderstorms from people who have experienced it. My eldest isn't affected by the storms at all. It's them thar wet dogs and that ilk that do it....

Never have the same exact problem twice with kids, do you?

Thanks GeorginaA!

DS2 has a touch of asthma today because of a cold (the only time he gets it) and when I asked the medical assistant to give him his puffer at lunchtime, she said there were several suffering with asthma because of the weather. So I guess it's quite common, though is not why DS2 is suffering - we have all had the cold this past week.

No worries Do you know about the Asthma UK website? It's got some great information on there and a helpline number, if ever you can't get in contact with yours They're fab!

Yes, I'm on flexible preventative use too - tend to up mine in stormy weather, if I've got a cold, and pretty much the entire flu season now I have young children
