If you had whooping cough as a child, does that make you immune for life?

MIL convinced it does. I'm pregnant with DC2 and none of DH's family have had the vaccine, but DH and his brothers all had whooping cough as children. I was vaccinated as a child, but should I get a top-up in my third trimester?

My understanding is that you can't have it while you're pregnant. I was exposed to someone who had it while pregnant, and had to wait until after delivery to be vaccinated. Could be remembering wrongly though. Butno, definitely not immune for life- in fact, the failure rate is relatively high according to my midwife.

The modern acellular jab can be given in PG, and indeed is recommended when there are outbreaks in order to boost transferred immunity to the newborn for protective effect before the baby's own first jabs are given.

Neither the jab, nor the disease, definitely confers lifelong immunity for all. That is why the PG booster is recommended for all women.
