Dangly labia?!? Anyone had surgery?

Not a troll I promise you!!

Not even name changed.

For along time I have had a dangly labia. Just the one side bizarrely.

But I think it is getting worse. It now hangs about a cm lower than my external bits and is all wrinkly and horrid. I hate it.

I'm in the middle of a bad bout of thrush and to be honest wonder if this is something to do with it. Will go and see a doctor about it but wondered has anyone had surgery on anything like this? And how did it go?

My friend has this. She kept quiet about it for years until one day on the beach her little DS asked her why she had a willy.

She went to the GP and had it done on the NHS as she said it was causing discomfort.

HTH Smile

I know someone who has been to the GP about something similar - the surgery (labioplasty) is not available on the NHS where she lives so only option for surgery would be privately.

Genitals come in all shapes and sizes. Asymmetry is common and normal.

Chances are people are staying away because it's an embarrassing subject Smile. If you are worried that things have changed very dramatically with your labia then maybe a visit to your GP would be sensible to put your mind at rest. If it is just cosmetic, then you will probably have to pay to have an augmentation if that's something you want. Do think carefully though, it is very vascular tissue and so bleeding is an issue.

I work in gynae and can confirm that quite a few people have the same problem and where I work it's done on the NHS if it's causing discomfort or embarrassment. worth a trip to the docs and you are perfectly normal!

rosemount · 19/10/2013 17:19

I work in private health care and can confirm it is becoming more popular--certainly not unheard of.

Petitgrain · 19/10/2013 17:23

What is unusual about that then?? That's what mine are like and I've never given it a second thought!

RandomMess · 19/10/2013 17:25

I remember an episode of emabarrassing bodies where a girl was there having corrective surgery because the labioplasty had gone wrong - think I decided then I'd just live with my wonkiness!

Jesus Christ. Of all the things to worry about...

I blame porn.

I had the surgery - not pleasant. Sorest thing I've ever gone through and I've had a lumber puncture, impacted teeth removed wide awake, wide awake/unanaesthetised catheterisation, two broken bones.. None of that compares.

I know I had a lot of local anesthetic injections just at the end of the op but they only lasted some six hours, and when they did I was sobbing. I couldn't move due to pain, even just simple things like having a wee left me in floods of tears. I had to spend the night in hospital, then had home visits from the GP and district nurse for a week. I couldn't walk for a week, then couldn't walk without discomfort for another fortnight after that - and had the discomfort having the stitches removed at the surgery a month later.

The results were as I wanted - my labia now sit neatly inside, and I haven't lost too much sensation (although the ends aren't very touch sensitive at all), nor do I have much scarring. For me I would say the op was worth it but at the time it wasn't nice at all.

But honestly - see the surgery as the very last resort. I had little choice - I was covered in callouses, sore ripped and torn skin, unhealed fissures, endless infections and urine infections due to a weird pouch that formed. Even with all that though I had to see three gynaecologists, several GPs, and had to fight my case numerous times (and still do - there are more than a few doctors who have made sarky comments about NHS funds and time wasters etc, and one bitch who asked if I watched pornography, in case my problem was caused by that).

By all means see the doctor but if they offer barrier creams, or canesten etc do try that first - don't see the surgery as the best option, it really really isn't unless you're really struggling with pain.

Gosh butter thanks for sharing that. Glad it worked out ok on the end. I stupidly imagined that it wouldn't be a huge op Blush. My dangly bit is quite localised ie only about 1 cm wide and long. Sorry if tmi. So kind of thought it woul be a quick snip.

I'm certain it's not a wart or anything as I had it way before becoming sexually active though it has got longer. When I first heard of the clitoris I thought perhaps this was it!!

I don't want a 'perfect' labia and have never watched any porn so not comparing myself to porn stars. It just feel a little uncomfy, especially in lacy pants and I did wonder if it was involved with the thrush I've been getting.

Thanks for telling me I'm normal though. I've never mentioned this to even my closest of friends.

At least 2 cm both ways here. In fact nothing stays 'inside'.

I am not sure that having the ends snipped off would help that much.

In fact, the danglyness depends on state of hormones etc.

I just keep doing my pelvic floors, stand up tall and thank my lucky stars the structural bits are in tact (just had those repaired).

TBH, if it was easy I would go for it too, but from what I have seen, it is not.

I use www.yesyesyes.org/product_oil.htm when a bit sore (due to hormones) and for DTD. And it feels nice.

BumWad · 20/10/2013 23:25

I had it done when I was 18. One side was really dangly and every time I walked it felt like it was getting caught in my knickers and was quite uncomfortable and sore.

Had it done on the NHS, only stayed in one night. Was wearing tight jeans the next day.

Now it feels and looks fab down there Smile
