MMR - can they get measles still?

fletchie · 02/07/2006 18:10

Really quick question -
Have a 16 month old who had MMR 7 weeks ago. She has been unwell lately and now developed a rash that looks very much like measles to me. Could this be possible? Am waiting for NHS Direct to get back to me but are taking an age.
She has been in contact with measles as a friends little boy has had it.
Thanks x

I think there are, sadly, quite a few people around who don't vaccinate their children because they don't think that M, M and R are serious enough illnesses to warrant the alleged risk of autism/bowel disease/other adverse reaction from vaccinating.

Hillary · 09/07/2006 23:38

I know these are serious illneses but does anybody here actually know what is put in these vaccinations and where they come from?

Vaccinating reduces natural imunity i'm not speculating its a fact your body doesnt fight for itself (rather like a stubborn teenager with their mum doing everything for them)they could do it for themselves if they were given the chance))!

There's no way i would have any immunisations or my children! I know what they contain!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 09/07/2006 23:52

"Vaccinating reduces natural imunity i'm not speculating its a fact your body doesnt fight for itself" This interpretation is just plain wrong.

Coolmama · 10/07/2006 09:18

I think that Hillary certainly has the right to choose whether to vaccinate or not - regardless of the fact that I don't necessarily agree with her approach - however I do think that she should try to find out a little more before posting a (what I consider to be) fairly misinformed remark -

Hillary · 10/07/2006 19:36

I don't mean to mis-inform you I'm only saying i wouldn't give my children the vaccinations as i have had to research their contents as both my children are highly allergic to many drugs/foods as are the past 3 generations of my family so we have all been unable to have vaccinations, we have all formed a natural high amunity to illness as our bodies have had to fight all the time.

Many people have said we should all be vaccinated and after researching the ingredients i was horrified - i researched the drug companies, i'ts not just the illness they put into the serum its the other stuff which drs know about it stands to reason really you have to get the disease from somewhere, but where doesnt really spring to mind.

I hope i'm not offending anybody but this is my opinion, i am not in the medical profession so please dont let me influence you in any way I'm just concerned as are you, i don't want my children or myself to get ill but i certainly wouldn't touch any of the below let alone inject it into my baby.

Below is a list of ingredients i have come accross.

Heavy metals like mercury and aluminumPus form sores of diseased animalsHorse SerumCalf SerumFecal MatterUrineMacerated Cancer CellsSweepings from diseased childrenOther Vaccine Ingredients: Formaldehyde (a carcinogen) - used in embalming fluidsPhenol (also a carcinogen) - may cause paralysis, convulsions, coma, and necrosis and gangrene Lactalbumin hydrolysate - emulsifierAluminum phosphate - aluminum salt which is corrosive to tissuesRetro-virus (SV-40) - contaminant virus of some polio vaccinesAntibiotics - (i.e., neomycin tm) for infectionChick Embryo - growth medium for virusSodium Phosphate - a buffering saltForeign animal tissues containing genetic material (DNA/RNA) - from growth medium

Hillary - I'm not going to address your family's allergies. I only referred to your lack of understanding of what vaccinations are about.

You must have visited some scary websites.

Coolmama · 11/07/2006 19:36

ditto

Hillary · 11/07/2006 22:28

I do understand what vaccinating is all about, protecting and eradicating disease to create a safer environment for our children and grandchildren. I'm not stupid i just don't like the way the vaccines are made & don't nessecerily agree with it. It is common knowledge as to what is in them and it is your right to know.

am not questioning the vaccine or it's contents at all - it was Hillary's comment about the "fact" that vaccinations "reduce natural immunity" -

Thank you Socci

The GP has to tell you well they don't like to as it puts people off having them but they cant really deniy it, its crazy what they put into immunisations & we worry about eating organic!

Coolmama · 11/07/2006 22:52

I can certainly see that, Soci - this whole vax thing is really one of those things that they should tell you about before you have a baby - forget the dire warnings about sleepless nights and cracked nipples -

Hillary · 11/07/2006 23:04

If something artificial is fighting the disease such as measles vaccine for measles then your body naturally lets its guard down and lets the vaccine take over hence making you immune, but if your body is constantly on guard it tends to fight whatever is in its path be it measles or the common cold - its ready! that was my point your body has a good immune system!

You get some people who live in very dirty houses who never get sick but if someone goes in who is clean and always has been they will probably get ill - their bodies are not used to the bacteria & are not ready to fight it whereas the dirty person is and never gets ill - get my drift?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 12/07/2006 09:24

No, to use your oversimplified description, in fact what the vaccine does is to make the body always be on guard for the disease it's supposed to protect against, so that if you do encounter the disease the defense system is already half-made and your body doesn't have to start from scratch.

Hillary · 13/07/2006 00:27

CristinaTheAstonishing i think we should just agree to disagree! You have your views and i have mine after all we are not here to inflict on others we only speak of our personal experiences.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/07/2006 12:17

Hillary - you went beyond speaking of personal experiences to describing inaccurately how vaccines work. I had to point out that you're wrong. Of course, what you do with your own children is your own business, informed decision or not.

Coolmama · 13/07/2006 15:25

Hi Hillary - I have to say that I agree with CtheA - as I said in my earlier posts, I have no issue with who vaccinates or not, that is a personal choice, but it is the way the vaccine actually functions that you seem to have misunderstood somehow.
