moisturiser as 'pure' as possible calamine lotion if really hot still

mazzystar · 02/07/2006 17:44

have a cool shower to take the heat out of it, then the lightest, least perfumey moisturising lotion you can find.....

LadyTophamHatt · 02/07/2006 17:45

Will that rub in though??

It's mostly across my shoulders and chest so I'd have to sit up right all evening if I put sudocrem on it....

Use sudocrem and then put on the oldest, baggiest cotton T-shirt you have. When the sudocrem starts to absorb naturally, renew it.

LadyTophamHatt · 02/07/2006 17:47

I'm a light shade of pink, it's not deep deep burning.

As I said I haven't burnt in years because I'm usually careful but also even when I am out I hardly ever burn...even on the very rare occaiasion I've been out without suncream I still hardly burn.

Not sure what happened today....

Baby oil helps, too. You just want something greasy, really.

I think even cooking oil can be fine.

Alternatively, go lie in a cool bath, or wet down your shirt, and put it back on.

bannaloaf · 02/07/2006 17:48

make a paste with bicarb of soda if you have any that should help

LadyTophamHatt · 02/07/2006 17:49

GOd...the kids will have great fun smearing me with bum cream!!

Ds3 has had half a pot smeared on his nappy rash today so they'll find it very strange....

LadyTophamHatt · 02/07/2006 18:28

I used a cool flannel dipped in water with some lavender oil in it

It is great for burns

PrettyCandles · 02/07/2006 19:05

When we were kids there was no such thing as aftersun. When we got sunburnt Mum used to treat us by dabbing plain yogurt all over the sunburn, wait until it dried, then dab it off with wet cloth, dab dry, and reapply the yogurt. She repeated this until the yogurt no longer dried quickly, then washed it all off and put some very plain moisturiser on us. We never blistered.

LadyTophamHatt · 02/07/2006 19:12

Well...I've just discovered thats our shower doesn't do cool showers!!!

Cold water pressure in so weak upstairs that it can't push the water up the pipe to the annoying over head old fashion shower.

Had it as cool as it would possibly go and even then it was warm.

Will keep wet teatowel around shoulders for a while longer and apply some cream later.

I dread to think what DH is like as he burns really easily.....

Never tried these myself but raid your kitchen cupboards and see if you have any of this stuff handy:

sunburn remedies

larlylou · 02/07/2006 19:41

sudocream is good for sunburn.

bootsmonkey · 02/07/2006 19:56

Another vote for yoghurt here...
