Ages since I've posted but not sure what to do.

DD went to be so early last night, saying she had a headache, she's 3, and slept all night, this is unusual.

This morning she woke up and said she still had a headache and a sore neck, I panicked, checked her for a rash and then asked her where it hurt on her neck. She pointed out to her throat saying that it hurt inside which calmed me down a bit.

She went very happily to the childminders this morning, but she has just called me to say DD is shivering but she is burning up. Unitl last year she suffered from convulsions and we have gone a year without her having one.

I'm stuck at work for the next hour waiting for my boss to come back, only person in the office and now I'm getting myself into a right state.

Am I over reacting??????

May be different, but our 7yr old and several other children at his school were off for varying times last week with very sore heads and very high temperatures but no other symptoms (appetite not great either for 3 or 4 days).

Take some deep breaths in and and (slowly), try to calm down. She is with your childminder, whom I am sure you trust, and they will no doubt cope until you can get there. A quick phone call to make sure she is getting your daughter's temperature down (ie calpol and tepid bathing (not cold) - facecloth rung out in tepid water will do).

You are not over reacting, you are just being a mum.

Hope things go ok, let us know.

Take care.

Thanks butterflymum.

Have called to see how she is but I just want to go home. Have now got to stay at work until 3.15 and it is dragging.

Would be really happy if she was with her usual childminder, but I have to have a different childminder during the holidays, so she hasn't been to her since October holidays.

Other thing that was bothering me was the local school has had three reported cases of meningitis the week before the holidays.

Hi again

Just a quick note to say hope you got home OK and that your daughter is not as bad as you feared.

Let us know when you get a chance.

Sounds like tonsillitis to me ... lots of it going around at the moment.

Hope it's nothing too sinister and that a long weekend of TLC will sort her out XXX

Evita · 20/02/2004 16:55

dd just had tonsillitis a week or 2 ago and it made her VERY hot and ill.

Hope all's ok with you.

Just a quick note to say all is OK, not over it yet but getting better. Had to go the doctors again on Sat morning cos DD was sick and there was blood in it. Doctor said the lining of her throat had been torn due to being sick. Temp still a bit high all weekend, usually goes down after a day. Doc also said she could have a water infection as her wee smelt strong. Had a lovely quiet day off work with her yesterday anyway.

How do small children get water infections?? Anybody know??

Little girls are more prone to water infections than boys (usually!) just because of how we're made. Does she take herself to the loo? make sure she wipes from front to back IYSWIM. The wee can smell a bit strong if she's a bit dehydrated too, so get her to drink plenty.

HTH
