Stitching up from a laparoscopy

comeonbishbosh · 15/10/2013 21:20

I had a laparoscopy last week (removed missing mirena coil, found somewhere near my stomach!). Took the dressings off after a few days. The two lower cuts are much as I expected, small amounts of black stitching around a point. But there's one immediately below my tummy button which just seems really weird and has upset me a bit.

Sorry if TMI... There's an unbroken thin strip of skin that stretches vertically into my tummy button from below. Then each side of it and tucked beneath it are cut bits and stitching. This has the effect of pushing the strip of skin bulging outwards so it looks like a little sausage creeping into my tummy button.

It's just very different to what I was expecting (no-one discussed the stitching with me at any time) and feels v prominent. I suspect I'm a bit weirded out and disturbed by the whole operation thing as a whole, as I'm quite squeemish, so I'm probably overeacting. I just wondered if anyone knows if this is a normal way of stitching up? And if it will gradually calm down into a flatter price of skin with just a bit of marking?

Thanks.

Quite normal - will settle down into a flat scar over time.

Sounds very familiar and now I have a tiny mark of scar. It's all inflamed and new atm, give it time.

If it feels at all hot our itchy seed your gp as both times I had it done it got infected.

Normal at first. It should flatten and be half hidden into your navel as it heals. As valium says its inflamed and swollen at the moment. Both mine are now almost invisible and disguised into my navel after many years.

It will flatten as the swelling eases.

However, I have to say I hate my lap scar. I think the surgeon must have let his 3 yr old daughter have a go at stitching me up. I'm a bit funny about scarring though. The lower scars are brilliant though, and barely visible. I think I was just unlucky with the belly button scar.

Thanks for the tip valiumredhead, will keep a weather eye on it.
