The poor luv - i had this a few years ago after wiping one of the kids noses at nursery. My mouth was the worst with loads of ulcers, hands and feet weren't too bad. I just ate very little, but kept my liquids up. Maybe you could try jelly and icecream to soothe?

I hope he's feeling better real soon.

I was told that rest was the best possible way to get better, so i was off work for two days - as it's contagious - and stupidly decorated the bathroom! I regretted it after cos i felt 10 times worse!

He must feel terrible, the poor mite, but i know that it must be really tiring for you. Hopefully it won't last too much longer.

Ah, poor little thing - I had this when I was about 7, it's horrid. I remember living on yoghurt and gazpatcho soup - it was hot weather like this so hot soups were not on the menu. I also had a broken jaw when I was 16 and couldn't eat solids then either - lived on soups and strawberry complan (get this from pharmacies) which is like a food substitute.

Hope he gets better soon.

Mum2oliver - poor mite.

DS had hand, foot and mouth this week. He has been in so much pain that he lost his voice with all the crying and screaming. He refused to eat or drink absolutely everything for two days and I landed up having to syringe fluids into him. He is 2.4 years and doesn't understand why he had to drink. He woke up screaming every 1hr for 2 nights. I can honestly say this it the worse illness I have ever come across and would rather deal with tonsilitis every day of the week.

We were prescribed a spray called Difflam to numb the ulcers and heal them heal and advised to give him Lucozade Sport to rehyrdrate.

I managed to get him to eat dd's frozen applesauce (partly thawed) which helped get fluids into him. Also, try yoghurt, ice cream, milk, soups. Avoid acidic foods. Hope you have better luck they we did.

Thankfully, ds is returning to his normal self and eating and drinking well, but it has been 6 days of hell. Day 3 and 4 were the worse.
The most important thing is to get fluids into him and food can wait.

oops, didn't mean to scare you.

The reason ds was so bad was because he had ulcers on his tonsils and his throat and I couldn't get the spray on those parts.

mum2oliver - ah bless him hope he is starting to maybe feel a bit better today. The heat really doesn't help.

My ds has this whe he was about 10/11 months it was horrible for him. I remember having to lay next to him and rub his ears and in between his little fingers for him cos he ithced but didnt know what to do. Try calamine and aqueous cream that you can get rlly cheap in chemist, we just used it for chicken pox and it rlly helped cool and calm his skin down.

Drink wise I dunno how old he is but we have ours lucozade hydroactive water to keep him hydrated along with lots of ice pops. Juicy fruits like gape were gd too so long as theyre not acidic. Just try soft blandish food.

Hope he gets better soon xx
