Hello
I know it's October but I swear I'm suffering from hayfever, is anyone else?
I just want to know this is happening to others and that it's not something in my home that's causing it.
It's also affecting my asthma, I've never needed my inhaler so much.

Are the fields near you still being harvested? Weird connection but my cat suffers from hay fever type symptoms this time of year which worsen his asthma because of the dust the combines throw up. Hopefully it's easier to get you to take your inhaler and tablets than it is him!!!

Yes I live near crop fields but I don't know if they are harvesting, I've never suffered before either.
Unfortunately I can't take anti histamines as I'm breastfeeding :(

Allergies can come on at any time. My DH got hayfever fo the irst time last year. You might have som luck asking a local pharmacist if there's anything you can take whilst breast feeding. Hope you feel better soon.

ilikesweetpeas · 12/10/2013 03:52

If you see a doctor there are some things you can have to help hay fever whilst breast feeding, can't remember what I was prescribed, but it definitely helped!

Thanks I'll ring GP on Monday.
Chemists won't advise on med safety during breastfeeding, ours just says go to GP.
I'm sure you can have sprays though.

Just spoke to a friend who thinks hayfever isn't possible this time of year.
I'm worried now, I don't know what I could be allergic to. It's gone on since July.

I have this too. Its worse now than at the height of summer, bizarrely enough. We are surrounded by fields so maybe there is something in that.

You can take antihistamines safely while breastfeeding. See here

I take Loratadine tablets and Beconase nasal spray when its at its worst.

Purlesque · 12/10/2013 10:10

Thanks pas
I think I'm going to wash sheets without detergent just to rule that out.
Reassured by your msg and hope it ends soon.

I hope so too. It can't be long now, the weather's turning and the harvesting and ploughing are nearly finished round here.

Try hoovering your mattress and soft furnishings and damp dust everywhere to minimise the chance of house dust mites.

denialandpanic · 12/10/2013 15:39

it's mould and spores season.

Purlesque · 12/10/2013 17:15

I can figure out why this year, I hope I don't suffer every year.
Thanks for replies.

DH gets hayfever a lot of the year - different pollens seem to be high in different seasons, and he just seems to be allergic to them all. The only time it is almost sure to be allergy free for him is December and January.

These things do come and go as well. I first got hayfever at 21 and still get it now (at 24). I am most susceptible to actual hay so being near hay fields is the worst for me, especially when they're preparing the bales.

DH has tried lots and goes for: Beconase when it's not too bad, Hay Max around the nostrils when it gets worse, and Pollena tablets (I think they're homeopathic, available in Holland & Barrett) for when it's at it's worst. I think these, or most of these, can be used when breastfeeding too and after years of trying all matter of medications and tips these have come out top.

Thanks for the replies.
I took clarityn last night after I bf ds, I could breath through my nose all night, great stuff!
I looked into mould spores and levels are high at the moment and apparently last until the of October. The humid wet weather makes it worse.
Hopefully only another week or two, the frost helps.
