Is there anything new out there? Dovenex and betnovate solutions are hardly effective anymore, all cocois does is make my hair smell different and what was a simmering case of scalp psoriasis has flared into a full on tight scalped flaky itch fest. I need to get some more coconut oil in to at least help temporarily descale it.

It's a bit of an all round whinge really. I'm itching all over which usually means its about to explode all over my body and my arthritis is beginning to flare. Sometimes I think it would be really nice not to have this.

I have the same and have never found anything that works despite years of trying and hundreds of pounds spent.

twilight81 · 06/10/2013 22:57

Yes!! I suffered for 5 years and they kept giving me the same old things.. Finally they have me something called betacap solution which cleared it right up.. Not sure why I was never given this before, but had the things you mentioned and they did nothing at all to it.

Dollybird86 · 06/10/2013 23:10

Hi ive had this for a few years and it has recently cleared up but there are a few factors but im not sure which it is. Firstly im pregnant but I have had no changes in my skin so don't think this is it. I have also changed my hair style I now have box braids (single plaits) im mixed raced and I only use almond oil on my scalp and only co-wash my hair with a coconut oil conditioner. I think this is mainly the reason as I think the products + heat from hairdryer and straightener were making it much worse.
I doubt any of this will help.
Hope it gets better soon

AntoinetteCosway · 06/10/2013 23:16

I've never found anything to work either I'm afraid Sad

Have you ever looked at making dietary changes? On the Food Hospital on channel 4 they had amazing success with a dietary treatment for psoriasis sufferers, I was blown away. Summary at foodhospital.channel4.com/cases/case-file-karen-and-callum/ and I think the episode is probably still available on demand.

I have sebahorric dermatitis on my scalp. It is causing hair loss. My scalp has sores now and often my hair is matted with blood.
I looked around online and saw some good advice. First, if there is a layer of flakes and scales on your head, nothing will cut through it. Warm some olive oil, rub into scalp and leave settle, maybe with a shower cap on. Then gently remove scales now they are soft. Next you will need to use a medicated shampoo. I alternate between capasal, nizoral and selsun. Then condition your hair because the flakes will cling to it in when you wash out.

Then dry your hair immediately, dont towel dry, these things multiply in wet conditions.

Do this every day, cut down in sugar and take a multi vitamin. This is working for me. Hair loss is greatly reduced and sores and scales to a minimum. Good luck! !!

Oh YBBK I just saw you have the arthritis too. Are you my twin? Are you me????

valiumredhead · 07/10/2013 00:04

Try Loreal shampoo, dark blue bottle with orange kids, it's magic.

valiumredhead · 07/10/2013 00:04

LID

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2013 09:44

lol about orange kids Grin I will try that.

Thank you so much for your suggestions - it does seem that the same ingredients come up over and over - we need something new!

betacap is benovate solution, but perhaps the carrier makes a difference. I can ask to swap over. Looks like capasal has the same active ingredients as cocois and selsun is the same as head and shoulders.

I've not tried dietary changes even though I've had it since I was little because it always seems related either to infection or season change. I think maybe I should though .

back later!

Loreal is the only thing that had ever worked in 25 years for me!

Sharpkat · 07/10/2013 10:48

My scalp is one scabby mess at the moment so am going to try the loreal.

valiumredhead · 07/10/2013 11:01

Give it a week washing everyday and rinse and repeat. I only have to use it once or twice a week now to keep my scalp ok.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2013 13:09

I'll try that - thank you :)

I can only ever find it in boots btw never in tesco or super drug. It's in the anti dandruff section do not with main shampoos

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2013 13:29

I'm going to be in town tomorrow so I will pick some up.

Rotterwallah · 07/10/2013 13:33

Is the Loreal one the anti dandruff one?

I think that's one i tried and it made it worse, it dried it out more, which is the last thing mine needed :(

madbutnotbad · 07/10/2013 13:36

I get nizoral shampoo on prescription and its worked wonders on my scalp. You can buy it from pharmacies as well. Nothing else worked for me and if I use anything else me scalp is horrendous.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2013 13:37

I wish nizoral worked for me. It just goes to show though how everyone reacts differently.

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 07/10/2013 13:58

Rotter-there's two, one makes my hair like straw the other is magic in a bottle.

valiumredhead · 07/10/2013 13:59

Nizoral was hopeless for me too.

madbutnotbad · 07/10/2013 14:25

It does indeed show the differences the only other thing that has ever helped me was thebody shop ginger shampoo but after a year or so it seemed to stop working.

ToddleWaddle · 07/10/2013 14:32

Have scalp psoriasis and related arthritis too. Arthritis in remission thankfully.
Ist pregnancy psoriasis disappeared. This time got worse. Go figure!
Been to see dermatologist and now use Cocois overnight a few nights and betacap in morning after washing.
Disappears for a week or so and then back again but at least I can get to hairdressers without the dry scalp comments.
Any miracle cures would be appreciatedWink
