8cm quick growing ovarian cyst!

Hi
My husband and I were due to start Ivf treatment this month as we have severe male factor infertility.
I have had numerous previous scans and blood tests and all has been fine, my cycles are exactly 28 days always.

I was scanned about five weeks ago to check how many follicles I had, a,l fine. Went back yesterday for the baseline scan to start the Ivf medications and they found a huge cyst. They said 8cm. I've not had any pain and if I hadn't gone yesterday I'd never have know it was there, however now I know I've started getting pains at the top of my leg.

The fertility clinic said to leave it and it may well be gone by my next cycle (so it has delayed the treatment) but I looked at dr google when I got and it basically said that anything that big is unlikely to just disappear. So I returned to my gp who could feel the cyst and she has booked to see me again next Wednesday to check if it has grown.

I'm worried because it has grown so quickly, I assume it is a functional cyst - I shouldn't think it's cancerous etc because it has grow so quickly but I don't really know about these things. Also it presented just as a clear black shape.

Any advice? Should I be preparing to lose an ovary on top of our male factor infertility? Someone up there appears to not want us to have any more children! (We have a ds conceived easily and naturally).

I had a cyst about that size and it was removed by laparoscopy, without touching my ovary. I think it depends on position and whether the cyst goes of its own accord, which most do (they're v common and most women don't know they have them as they can be symptomless). Fingers crossed that yours is just a monthly one, which will go by itself. Rotten timing for you - but sure it will all be fine.

Do you mind me asking why they chose to remove it rather than leave it? Had it been there a while?

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry, just checked mn now. It was discovered when I had a routine pregnancy scan. I was scanned periodically after ds was born and it was still there, and growing 2 yrs later. It wasn't causing too much trouble but I think the fact that it was just getting bigger was enough to necessitate surgery. Was incredibly straightforward op.
