If you have a older ds, when did he start producing smelly sweat?

I just saw the thread in parenting about someone whose ds is getting pubic hair aged 7 and it reminded me:

today ds1 (aged 10) had been playing in the garden and when he came in, he smelt very sweaty in a teenage, body odour sort of way. He has never done so before and I wondered if this was a sign of puberty. He is very young still, not at all physically mature for his age (he is only just 10).

When did your ds start smelling sweaty?

At Beavers, whatever age they go to that.
12.5 now and only just starting the rest of it although he has been a moody whatname for what feels like decades.

For about the past year, he's 8.5

My DS does sometimes when he has been running about etc.

Since last year when he was 10

His classmates started around the same age too

LOL have just started a thread about buying Dd1 (8) deodorant as she was a bit smelly today.

DumbledoresGirl · 28/06/2006 21:13

Oh so it is obviously normal.

I tell you what I was thinking of: when I was an innocent 11 yo, I can remember a girl in my class asking me and my friend what deodorant we used. I didn't even know what deodorant was! And no, my friend and I were not smelly or in need of deodorant. I think the other girl was just showing off and pretending to be more grown up than she was.

So I wondered if ds was too young for this, but obviously children mature younger these days.

So when do I start buying the deodorant? (for him!)

does it really start this young? DS1 (9) has started being extremely moody..... was hoping it was just a phase and that the whole puberty thing wasnt starting yet. I am going to keep walking past him now and taking a whiff to make sure he isnt whiffy

Hiya Poppies! I am telling you, there was no need for surreptitious sniffs today in my house. I simply waslked into the room and smelt it.

Ds1 has been a bit moody and temperamental, on and off, for some time now, but when his class had the puberty talk and film earlier this year, he didn't seem to relate to it at all. Though he could tell some of the girls in his class were ready for the information!

It all starts so young these days.

Dumbledoresgirl, my recollection of being on a bus load of 10/11/12 year old boys is still fresh - or should that be stale - in my mind even though it was 20 odd years ago.

I think prepubescent boys do smell quite sweaty in a different way to girls at that age.

Plus boys are less conscientious re cleanliness than girls, I think

I've got 2 teenage DSs. No idea when their sweat became smelly because they and all their friends coated themselves (and their rooms) with Lynx from around Year 5 on. I believe it is a banned substance in some schools.

Apologies for triple posting. My computer seemed to be jammed (probably with Lynx deposits)
