Can you get SINGLE TETANUS SHOTS FOR 6YR OLD??

DS had bad reaction to DPT as a baby and my Mum had bad reaction to tetanus shot as an adult. As a result DS has only had 2 lots of the DPT and no booster.

He has cut his finger today with scissors and I am worried about tetanus. Is it possible to get a single jab as we are not sure what he reacted to in the DPT (hope not the tetanus element).

Thanks

scissor cut would be unlikely to cause tetanus unless outside, soily and the cut was puncture wound deep. Did it bleed? (good if it did)

AFAIK no single tetanus available for under 10's- PLEASE let me know if you find out anything to the contrary as I would like ds2 and ds3 to have some protection.

You can get a passive antibody shot against tetanus- from A and E. Might be worth ringing nhs direct?

What was the reaction likee "ill" reactions are often from the pertussis part, allergic type ones often from the tetanus part, although that would be unusual with a first shot, more likely after repeated.

He became erythrodermic (more than 90% of his body was red swollen and oozing) and was loosing body heat. We later discover he has several serious allergies to the usual suspects. I am sure his reaction to the jab and his allergies are linked somehow.

It happened at school so not sure if it bled. Will ask. He still has a plaster on and I haven't seen it yet. Dad tells me it's the tip of the finger which is flapping off (not badly). Should he have been supervised using a scissors or am I just being silly?

Must add it took a while before the consultant admitted it was probably the DPT and I don't believe it was written anywhere in his notes.

If there's lots of oxygen circulating the cut then I wouldn't be particularly concerned about tetanus- sounds like a terrible reaction to the dtp.

None of my kids can use scissors so I'm not the person to ask about scissors and supervision!

You can report reactions yourself now- think there's a link on the other shot thread- if not google yellow card uk adverse
