Is it possible to get Complan on prescription ??

Dd2 has several issues atm including depression, anxiety, self harming and eating issues.

I have to keep a food diary for camhs and dd is weighed weekly. I have managed to get dd to drink a complan milkshake for breakfast each morning, but they are not cheap, and I am really struggling financially atm. Does anyone know if they are available on prescription for this type of thing ??

I think my mum got complan on prescription or something similar anyway

DBro had high nutrition food on prescription, MH/addiction issues. Worth asking - if you don't ask you never get!

Flowers and big hugs, you deserve them.

Thank you, and thanks for the flowers and hugs DDRB Smile

I shall make sure I ask when we are next there then.

I dont belIieve complan is on presscription. mum buys the stir in sort for dad- haslymphoma. you chasm get high chalk drinks but you need dietician input and dad says they are very ick after! couple....

dad has gold top milk too.

Possibly Thea, but it also has to be something she will have if I am not here. I am sometimes at work when she has breakfast and it needs to be mega quick and simple for her to do, else she won't.

Yes, absolutely available on prescription. Speak to your GP and explain the circumstances around needing it.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 04/10/2013 19:58

Thanks. Should have also added, she will only have the chocolate one.
Wonder if they let you specify.

Yes, you can specify the flavour - my mum gets them on prescription (she has dementia and doesn't eat well) but will only have strawberry.

I was given nutrition drinks (as I hate milkshake so didn't take to coplan) which came on prescription from the dietician.

I was told recently that any high calorie drinks/food replacements can now only be prescribed by a GP upon the instructions of a dietician.

That might only be in our area though and not a national guideline.

Apparently this is partly because it was too easy for care homes/nursing homes to say that a patient/resident wasn't eating properly because they couldn't be arsed to spend the time feeding them and as most homes have good links with their GP practise it was too easy for them to persuade GPs to prescribe these expensive high calorie products.

My DD does have high calorie products through our GP but he will only act on dieticians instructions (even if he has contacted the dietician himself to request the changes) Hmm

Ahh right bigbluebus. Dd has been referred to a dietician, but we've not seen them yet.

Mind you, she is now refusing to drink the complan anyway Sad
