Anyone been there?

Yes, I have had a quick look around on google and most sites seem to agree that it's not too bad.

'In rare instances, particularly with testicular cancer metastatic to the lungs , chemotherapy may be curative'.

I think it isn't as bad as you think.

Polpotsbabyteeth · 02/10/2013 18:54

Testicular cancer IS different to other solid tumours in that even when it has spread it is usually still curable. I know lance Armstrong isn't much of a role-model anymore but he had metastatic testicular cancer and survived. His story is not unusual.

Rooners · 02/10/2013 18:54

also from CancerresearchUK

'Symptoms of testicular cancer in the lungs

It is not very common for testicular cancer to spread to other organs, apart from the lungs. If it has spread to the lungs you may have a cough or feel breathless. Testicular cancer can usually be cured, even if it has spread when it is diagnosed.'

Thank you
Just been trying to think positively and how it is one of the most contained cancers and the fact it has spread to the lungs is a huge shock

9 weeks of aggressive chemo to come

Anyone know what we can expect please?

Oh Sonnet what a huge shock. I am really sorry.

I'm afraid I know nothing about chemo for this, but I hope someone will be along in a minute who can talk you through it a bit.

Polpotsbabyteeth · 02/10/2013 19:12

Don't focus on the spread, this cancer behaves different to other cancers you will have heard about. The treatment can be roughish, but like anything different for everyone. Nausea (but fab drugs nowadays), hairloss, can affect lungs, hearing, taste but most people cope fabulously, some continue working. Take all the support you can get. This is the worst part. The shock. The waiting for treatment to start.

Good luck.

notapizzaeater · 02/10/2013 19:12

My bf brother had this last year, he had about 3 months of treatment and is perfectly ok now. He had the testicular cancer the year before and was doing ok, it was found at one of his check ups.

Polpotsbabyteeth · 02/10/2013 19:13

Is there anything specific I can answer? Really don't want to out myself/ my profession but I may be able to help.

Thank you all
notapizzaeater do you mean he got lung cancer after testicular?

Thank you so much polbotsbabyteeth : what worries me the most is hearing it has spread... Every time I have heard this before it has not boaded well.

To be honest it is not my DH but a very close family member, with young children and no support for his
Wife and large young family except me.
How can I help and support?

I think the lungs are the first place is metastasises to so although it has spread, this will be the first place they will be expecting to see it. Wishing you and them all the best-hope the chemo does the trick.

northernlurker · 02/10/2013 19:38

This is NOT lung cancer. This is testicular cancer which has spread to the lungs. I know that sounds obvious but it is an important distinction. As others have said this is a type of cancer which does not behave in the same way as most.

In terms of support - I imagine a large, young family need lots of lifts and picking up of things from the shops. Why not ask the parents if you can do a regular top up shop for them mid week and get them to text you anything needed. If you're further away then I think a listening ear and drawing books etc for teh kids sent by post could be handy.

notapizzaeater · 02/10/2013 19:46

No he had testicular cancer that spread to his lungs. He is young (under 40) and he is now clear of all cancer. A no point where the doctors worried he would not conquer this as it is one of the easier ones Shock to cure ...

notapizzaeater · 02/10/2013 19:48

He coped really well with the treatment, just needed practical help ie getting to hospital, taking kids off there hands for a few hours, ready made food etc etc

Thank you northernlurker and notapizzaeater
