threadworm - how to make sure it goes for good

yuk yukkity yuk. am more than a little gutted to find evidence of thread worm sveral weeks after first discovering it. I was pretty strict for several days about towels and baths and bed sheets etc. and got everyone to take the precautionary second dose of tablets two weeks after initial one. how come it's back and what do I do to make sure it goes for good this time? I am planning on changing all the bed clothes daily for as long as I can healthily sustain it without becoming borderline OCD. what else?

You need to keep up the (extremely tedious) hygiene routine for at least two weeks AFAIR from when we were plagued with these blighters. Think I even read somewhere that the eggs can live in carpets, beding etc for up to six weeks!!

Will try and find you a link - hang on.

Here you go.

Only two weeks on that one.

You have my sympathy.

but then because 1 in 3 children at school (or something like that) has threadworms at any one time your children will just get reinfected again and again.....

and again

I get so annoyed about the ignorance about threadworms. Everybody is allowed to admit to getting headlice these days but people still don't even know about the symptoms of threadworms

thanks Aero - I googled last time and didn;t see that one. I have to admit I hadn;t been as strict as that - bloody hell daily change of bedclothes for a whole fortnight??? daily dust?? they're pernicious little blighters. but needs must. how utterly grim.

yes shimmy - the tablets I bought today say that at any one time 40 per cent of children have them. which just makes me feel that I'm probably fighting a loosing battle.

we have only had them twice or maybe three times and my bigs are 14 12 10 ish nnow.
My tips are that you dont need to do bedding everydayjust

wash it on boil
towels on boil
wash all handles loo/door in antibac stuff
tell kids to be vigilant with hand washing
cut nails
stop thumb sucking
