I've hurt my ankle. When do I get it seen?

I've done something to my foot/ankle. I think its probably a sprain, but I don't really know how to tell Blush

I can't remember twisting it or doing anything particular to it. It's definitely been hurting since Friday, possibly longer.

It hurts if I press just near the knobbly bone on the inner ankle, and hurts on the front if I stretch my foot out. It hurts to walk on too, worst is going downstairs, sort of under my foot towards the heel.

When would you get it seen to? It's not agony, but definitely sore and doesn't seem to be getting better, in fact it's worse if anything. Any thoughts?

You must elevate it whenever you are able to.
Put it up on the back of the sofa, so you lay longways & pop foot up.

Ice/peas.

Ibroprofen.

I reckon thats it Thanks

Thanks, iced it yesterday which didn't seem to do much. There's no swelling, as far as I can tell. Will work harder on the elevation!

How long would you expect it to take to stop hurting? Sorry, I just literally haven't got a clue, I've never been sporty or active at all and have never done anything like this before.

God, I reckon a good week until your pain free, and thats only with pain relief & elevating. Everytime you get up to walk, you will be putting weight & pressure on it again, so sort of back to square one.

Maybe ask physio dept if you can have crutches on loan?

I sprained mine once, slipped off a kerb, but it went black & I had to bum shuffle the stairs, so Im wondering what you might have done?

I wonder if a nerve is pressing, or have you been wearing different boots or shoes?

If it is a sprain, then you want to periodically flex it and rotate it, or else it will seize up. It's safest to get to a minor injuries clinic and get it checked out as soon as you can. I very badly tore a ligament in my foot, just standing on an uphill slope. I just stood there, something vaguely twinged and I thought nothing more of it until I got into the bath, the next day and noticed that it was swollen and black (was a cold night, I was sleeping on the sofa at the time, and I'd kept my socks on all night!) By the end of that day, I could barely put any weight on it and couldn't flex my foot upwards to stand on it. Painful as it was, I had to keep it moving, or else it owuld have got far worse.

Hmm, well it's definitely not black! Off work today feeling rubbish anyway, with a flu-like thing (though hopefully not actual flu!) so am lay here with it on the settee. Will fetch the ice in a minute, but I've spent the last hour trying to warm up.

I don't think we have a minor injuries here, so options would be GPs appointment in 3 weeks, maybe 2 if I sacrifice a goat and the foot falls off in the meantime or the Walk In Centre.

Oh no, I hope it proves asap.

Go to the walk in centre, then.

Is your period due? Ligaments can be softer in the run up to a period. I have HMS and everything bloody hurts at this time of the month!
