How to know if you may have skin cancer?

My husband is not happy about his face skin. And it seems it is easy for his skin, on other parts of the body, to have scratches. So he asked his GP if he may have skin cancer, and the doctor said no. But still he is worried as we are not sure whether our GP has carefully checked.

Do you have any advice? For example, is there any way to ask for a referral?

Thank you

Did the GP have a look at his face? If he had found anything worrying he WOULD refer straight away.
Easily scratched skin is NOT indicative of skin cancer.. some people simply mark more easily than others (for example those with EDS type 3, or hypermobility syndrome often have skin that marks easily)

I went to the docs with an 'odd' looking thing on my face that had appeared out of no where.. and the gp wasn't sure what it was but referred me because it looked strange. 2 weeks later in the skin clinic they had me in theatre there and then.. no messing because it was a keratoacanthoma ..similar to a basal cell carcinoma. I was too young, female (usually older males who live outdoor lives like farmers) and there was no reason to suspect cancer, but I was still referred very promptly.

I think it's wise for everyone to keep an eye on moles and for new unusual lumps and bumps but if the GP says there is nothing concerning..then there probably is nothing!

yes, I've got a funny lump under my eye like a spot that doesn't heal. I always use spf and take care of my skin.

it worries me.

will your dh go back to doctor?

alemci I had a "spot that doesn't heal" like you describe. Initially as tiny spot almost 2 years ago. After seeing GP was referred to consultant who did tiny biopsy and I have just had results saying its skin cancer - basal cell carcinoma. I am waiting for date to have it removed. Yours maybe nothing but do see your GP.

07917267217 Superdrug mole checker. They will check a mole for £30 or do a whole body check for £95 and send off anything suspicious to a derm

Alemci - I agree with Press Pause. Please go to the doctor and get it checked out. I had exactly the same and left it for a while. It was a Basal Cell Carcinoma which i have just had removed. Good luck to both of you.
