Hi,

Can anyone tell me what my Dr is testing me for please?

On my form was ESR, TFB, B12 Folcte and Glucose.

I've got a bad back and have a lump. I've had the lunp 6 yrs and it was originally diagnosed as a knot but this Dr thinks it's a fatty deposit.

I did mention to her that when I'm walking along, it sometimes feels like ny legs aren't attached ( hard to explain!

Thank you.

Sorry, should say the lump is just to the right of my spine about a third of the way down.

not medically qualified but
ESR tests to see if there is any inflammation
B12 and folate test to see if B12 or folate deficiency

Glucose is for diabetes, I'm wondering if the other test is FBC (full blood count) eg iron levels etc.

SoullessButSunny · 28/09/2013 08:25

Thanks Owl. Wonder why she's testing for that?

cheese She had ticked the FBC and LFT (I think it was that) boxes but had written TFB on the form.

Dr Google can't find any reference to TFB blood test abbreviations...

Thanks

They're probably checking everything. i remember going to Haematology for investigation due to low white blood cells and watching in bewilderment as they took ten tubes of blood - what they weren't testing for is no one's business! I remember thinking well if all that lot is ok I'll be doing well. And it was! the only things wrong were low iron and low neutrophils and as it turned out the former was causing the latter. Try not to worry too much x

SoullessButSunny · 28/09/2013 08:52

Thanks Owl 10 tubes is a lot of blood! This was only 4 I think. The blood lady did say to me that they test for everything and works their way backwards.

I'm stressing myself out because I'm worrying I've got MS or something. I had a very severe case of Glandular Fever when I was younger (could barely get out of bed for 2yrs) and I've read online that GF increases your chances of developing MS.

I've got nerve symptoms - burny/tingly feeling on the side of my hand, weakness in my arms. Sometimes when I'm walking it feels like my legs aren't attached and the world 'skips' like a DVD does. I know these may be the lump pressing on my nerves but I can't help but think the worst!

These symptoms aren't all the time, they do come and go.

Hopefully I'll get the results next week.

Hi Soulless,

Going through similar - have a thread in health. All my bloods came back normal, I've just been referred to neurology and someone on the other thread said this may be to rule out MS. It wasn't even something which had crossed my mind but when I googled it it all sounded 'right'. Really worried now, think it's a scary sounding condition :( lots of sympathy and unMNy gentle hugs

Wonder if TF means Thyroid Function as that is not included in the Full normal tests and is an extra.
I had 4 vials taken when I had the full Blood test and extra one for my Thyroid.
Also the LFT could be Liver Function Test although I thought was included in the Full Blood one.

digerd · 28/09/2013 09:19

The Thyroid was included in the 4.

mrssprout · 28/09/2013 09:39

LFT is liver function, positive about this as I have it once a month because of medication I'm on. Unfortunately I am absolutely no help with the others

SoullessButSunny · 28/09/2013 21:38

Thank you digerd and sprout.

rough I've read your thread and we share a lot of the same symptoms. I too have crippling exhaustion. It's got a bit better since I cut out certain foods from my diet - mainly dairy and gluten.

The joint pain I have is mainly in my hands, knees and hips. My hands are also quite puffy (all over not just the joints).

I don't feel down but I do suffer from anxiety (non medicated). To be honest though, I've always been quite anxious even as a child.

I think whatever I have was definitely triggered by the glandular fever.

Do you find it hard to control your body temperature? I'm always cold and even wear a dressing gown in the height of summer.

I have red cheeks. They have gone down since I cut out dairy but haven't completely gone. I'm very pale skinned so they do stand out!

This GP is the first in 10 yrs that's taken me seriously. When I saw one approx 5 yrs ago to say I was still suffering from severe fatigue, he told me 'You have 3 young children, what do you expect?'

Hope we both get to the bottom of whats wrong with us!

Also, I seem to have become allergic to everything! Have to take antihistamines daily.

Just a thought, soulless, but have you ever been tested for Lupus? Some of your symptoms sound rather familiar- exhaustion, painful joints, red cheeks.

You could ask to be referred to a rheumatologist, especially if your esr comes back raised, for a definitive answer.I spent several years doing the rounds and getting nowhere before I came across a specialist who suspected lupus and was correct. I, meanwhile, had diagnosed myself with no end of terrible illnesses Blush

SoullessButSunny · 30/09/2013 23:14

I don't think I have campion. I'll see what my results come back as re esr.

I looked up Lupus and my cheeks do look like the photo in NHS Direct, although not as severe.

I'll update on here after I've got my bloods back.

I've just phoned my surgery and all my bloods have come back as normal so I'm not sure where to go from here?

Don't know all the individual results but my ESR level was 7.

Can you have Lupus or MS and have normal bloods?

Shall I asked to be referred to someone (who??) with all the symptoms that I have?

I don't mean to drip feed but I'm also sensitive to sunlight - I look sun burnt on my shoulders and nose if I'm out in strong light but its not hot to touch at all and goes within a few hours so definitely not actual sun burn. This fits with Lupus.

I also get burning down the back of my calfs which feels much worse when touched. This fits with MS.

I'm stressing Sad
