3 yr old, constipation, blockage

My 3 yr old son was totally constipated around 2 weeks ago, he had a blockage and was really unwell.
He was in a lot of pain rolling round screaming holding his tummy.
Eventually after taking laxatives prescribed by doc he started pooing again.
He has not been right since then, instead of just saying he needs a poo like he always did he says his tummy is sore.
Today at nursery he pooed his self which really is not like him since the day he was toilet trained he never has had an accident.
Tonight he went to bed and wouldnt settle so he sat on sofa watching tv and every now and then e holds his tummy and says it's sore.
any ideas whats going on?

Are you still giving him the laxatives?

No he's been off them a while. When the doc told me to stop.

Phone NHS 24. I had 7 visits to the doctor over 3 months and got fobbed off with laxatives for my dd (3).
She was referred by NHS 24 to A&E, assessed by paeds and admitted to the ward with faecal impaction/chronic constipation with overflow. Was so badly bunged up that she was on 8 sachets of something called Movicol each day for a week reducing down til she had "emptied out". I was amazed and appalled at how much her colon had had to stretch to accomodate it all.
Don't wish to alarm you, honestly but I would just get a second opinion, particularly as it's now the weekend.
FWIW, the paeds told me that chronic constipation with overflow is pretty common but is often misdiagnosed by GPs.
HTH and best of luck

spud - was she still pooing regularly?
Josh is still going not every day.
I assumed that when you had a poo you wernt constipated anyomre (i know thats not the case now though!)

We thought that she coluldn't be constipated as she was pooing and actually was a bit on the skittery side. Turns out that all that she was able to expel was the liquid poo because the solid waste couldn't get past the huge blockage in her colon.
I'd maybe just get Josh checked. If he's in pain then no decent A&E or out of hours Dr's service would mind taking a look at him.I always err on the side of being neurotic when it comes to kids and no one has objected in the past. Think most people know how they would be if it was their child.
HTH.
