DH has a very bad back. He has terrible posture and I thought that a back brace might help. Do they, and could you please recommend one?

Thanks in advance,

No, no, no (unless properly assessed and fitted by orthopaedic surgeon or physios).

The use of the brace will result in further weakening of core muscles, leading to deteriorating posture and even more back problems.

Just like the use of soft collars for non-specific neck pain the use of back braces is often actively harmful.

Has he seen his GP, seen a physio, done the exercises, taken the pain killers regularly (if prescribed!)? Time to push for a referral to the local pain clinic.

Thank you very much! Yes- he has seen a physio, but he is pretty bad at doing his exercises regularly. I will have a chat with him about it! Thanks again.

All the physios I work with love it when people actually do the exercises. It makes them much easier to treat, because if the exercises aren't working despite doing them properly then its a sign you need to be referring on.

I was massively sceptical of the seemingly simple exercises given for SPD, until I was completely cured 4 weeks in.

Thanks for your help. Getting DH to follow advice is like pulling teeth from a troll. I might just leave him to it!
