Found out yesterday, everyone has had ovex.

Don't know who else has got it apart from me (Family of 6, 4 kids under 10) but all treated.

So what do I do now?!

Burn the house down?

I feel so sick, ewww :( I think I've had them a while without realising too, I mistook the symptoms for something else. I really feel disgusting :(

The life cycle of threadworms is continued by scratching one's itchy bottom and getting the eggs caught up in one's fingers, then transferring them to one's mouth. This is why they spread easily amongst small children. Adults aren't supposed to get them because the acid in their stomach is better at killing them (obviously that is not always true!!)

If you have all had ovex, you should be ok. You can prevent further infection by making sure little ones wear underwear (with elastic around the legholes) in bed to avoid direct scratching, until you are happy the infection is over. It is usually itchy at night, when the critters lay their eggs.
You just then have to enforce hand washing before meals and after loo and school. Buy them some nice squirty soap and nail brushes to encourage thoroughness.
If you can discourage sucking fingers, biting finger nails etc, so much the better.

Only normal housework and bedchanging is necessary, although I can sympathise with the desire to burn the house down. I had them when I was little, but my mother hadn't a clue and gave me germolene to put on my bum. I got the shock of my life when I found out what it was!!!

I'm convinced we've all had them far more than you'd know. If you have pets then you'll get worms. My kids have had them so I'm pretty sure I have too. I treat everyone. Next time you won't so yuck-d by it all Grin

Ovex didn't do the job when my kids had them, I had to resort to Prispen. Paralyses the buggers then had a laxative effect. Sorted.

Dd seemed to get them non stop a few years back. The only thing that seemed to work was ovex (and top up dose given 2 and 4 weeks later as recommended by gp to break the life cycle) and washing all bedding and underwear and pjs on a 60 degree wash. I still do that now and touch wood they haven't returned !

Feeling your pain op I've had them courtesy of dd quite a few times. As well as the Ovex and washing etc i plugged my butt with sudocrem each night to stop the fuckers from getting out ConfusedConfused
