Steroid injection

Hi
Was wondering if anyone has had a steroid injection for shoulder bursitis?
I have shoulder pain ( long term) and recently discovered through scans that the cause is likely to be bursitis.
I am really worried about the side effects of cortisone. My mother had a cortisone injection 30 years ago and all her hair fell out.
Has anyone any experience of this?
TIA

No. People can have unusual side effects. Your poor mumSad.
Just wanted to say that a friend of mine had a steroid injection in both thighs for hip/groin pain, and was surprised that the good effects took 2 weeks to work. Her hair has not fallen out.
Good luck. It is difficult with shoulder pain to find out what is causing it.

My fil had a steroid injection in his shoulder for arthritis a few weeks ago. It has helped his pain a lot (though now he's complaining about hie elbow!).

He had no side effects that I'm aware of. The injections do take a while to kick in so I'd say give it a go...

Also, 30 years ago??!! Guessing things may have been refined a bit since then!

Worth trying.

Depending upon where they are trying to get to it can be a bit weird as they can have the needle in for a minute or two.

I wouldn't say it was particularly painful, just uncomfortable.

I ended up with surgery, but mine was caused by an accident. Cortisone injections are a conservative treatment. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. You can have upto 3 in one spot per year.

Only side effects are it can cause thinning of the skin if you have lots of injections in the same spot.

The injection I had didn't improve my situation (impingement) as it really needed surgery, but I had other muscle damage that other steroid injections cleared up first time - that was a remarkable difference.

Worth giving it a try before any other intervention.

My Dad had a steroid injection couple of weeks ago, his shoulder was sore for a couple of days after, but he said he hasn't had pain since and his shoulder is a lot better. He has arthritis in both shoulders.
