I am 9 months post posterior repair op for a minor rectocele ,and getting confliciting advice regarding resuming my exercise routine .My gynea told me months ago no boxing, skipping running etc . He is very old fashioned and told me to just go have coffee as ladies shouldnt be doing these things. I asked my Gp to get me some advice from a physio because i was eager to resume my fitness routine . A physio phoned me and gave me some advice over the phone and basically said that i could do everything except sit ups and planks. I have started back at my boxercise class and have been careful to avoid sit ups, weights and any exercise i feel pulls on me. I am still worrying wether i am harming myself or risking damaging my repair so please please can anyone advise me further ??

Just to add i have some sacral pain following my op but the exercise doesnt seem to worsen it and exercise is vital to me to maintain my mental health (for me as good as any pill)

Ideally you need professional advice, not from the internet.

I've found the medical profession somewhat useless for sport people after surgery, with regards to recovery. They don't understand.

I would seek a private sports physio.

Physiofirst

Do a search for local private physios who specialise in women's health. Even better and you might be able to find one who does both women's health and sports specific rehab.

Thanks for the replies
I cant afford to seek advice from a private Physio .
When i queried the lady that called when she said i could continue to run she told me i had to live my life .
Surely there are some basic guidelines for what activity should be avoided ?

Other option is to see another GP in the practice, or get in contact with your surgeon.

Most importantly, you know your body, and 9 months is a fair amount of time for any potential problems to have shown up already.

I've been keen to get back into my sport after two operations, and the surgeon just said 'when you feel like it'.

Thanks again for the replies and the link Smile

The booklet doesnt appear to suggest avoiding exercise which is reassuring .

I think i am just paranoid because the surgeon is v old and has an outdated opinion on women. He laughed when i told him the sports i was keen to return to and told me to go shopping and drink coffee Hmm he said a lady shouldnt be doing these things.
The physio that called me seemed very sure that it was safe to resume my exercise but i think the doubts i have are because it was such a major op i wouldnt like to have to repeat it.
I think i will ask on the thread about it ,was reluctant too because its a massive fsat moving thread and i post on here infrequently.
