Can a partially breast-fed baby get chicken pox?

dd2 is 11 months and is breast fed twice a day. Will she share my immune system?

dd1 came out in zillions of spots last night. I'm hoping dd2 won't get it as we're due to go on holiday a week on sunday. I'm so upset. I really need this holiday. I haven't had any time off since I went back from maternity leave mid Jan.

I guess I'll find out the answer to the question in time, but I keep looking for hope and it would be interesting to hear your views.

Oh dear. Better to now the facts and be realistic about the chances of having a holiday.

Did your 4 month old have it badly?

sure. breastfeeding does not confer complete immunity to disease. nothing does.

the good news is that chickenpox in infants tends to be on the mild side.

good luck!

dd got chicken pox whilst I was pg with her - she was born with a poc mark

I was at the stage in pg where I could not be treated for it so had to cross my fingers and wait. luvkily she was fine apart from her mark!

I am guessing therefore that breast feeding would not stop them getting italthough may make symptoms more mild IYSWIM.
