Toothache with a temporary filling - should I go back sooner?

I need a root canal (booked for Monday). Dentist put a sedative in tooth and a temporary filling on Saturday.

I was in no pain from the tooth as decay was picked up During check up and initially thought it would be just a large filling but the decay was very deep hence the root canal.

However I am now in quite a bit of pain from that area and extending down to the jawbone. Paracetamol helps a bit but if anything touches the tooth (including Luke warm water) the pain kicks up again.

Do I need to go back sooner than Monday? I'm in more pain now than I was before I went but not sure if that is standard for having most of your tooth drilled out and temporarily filled? Confused

Some sensitivity is usual after any sort of drilling. I would call them and chat. I run an ooh dental session on Sundays and your story is quite typical. They may be able to get you in sooner. DO NOT accept antibiotics as a way o managing this. They will not work and you will waste your time and money on them.
Your symptoms indicate that there is still dead/dying nerve tissue inside the tooth which needs removing and dressing with something before the problem will settle

Thanks mrsmorton.

It feels a bit different to normal sensitivity pain. More like a ache sort of pain down into and along the jaw.

I don't know if it is my imagination but the teeth in front have been feeling strange. It's hard to describe but it feels like they are being squashed slightly. I poked one with my tongue earlier and it sort of felt like it clicked a bit. Again though, I'm not sure of it is my imagination!

I just feel silly ringing my dentist to ask Blush. I get very scared at the dentist and whilst he is a nice guy I know he thinks that I make a song and dance about things!
