What do you clean hairbrushes with when you kids have headlice?

Yep it's that time again. Found one on dd's hair tonight. They are doing the rounds at school. Her and her sister have gone off to bed with their heads smeared in lotion - smells gorgeous (NOT!) in our house at the moment.

I just wondered how I can "de-bug" their hairbrushes. I've obviously been brushing their hair before realising we had visitors. Don't want to re-infect by brushing again.

TIA

DS hasnt had nits yet but I dread the day that he comes home from school with them. Are there any lotions better than others or are they all as good. I think I will go and get a nit comb and a bottle of tea tree oil just in case he ever gets them, which is very likely. I had nits when I was about 10 yrs old and was treated with Prioderm. It stunk but it worked and that was the end of it... it doesnt seem to work like that any more.

I've been battling headlice on and off for months and have finally found something that seems to work. It's called Hedrin - a new thing that contains silicone and "drowns" (suffocates I think) the lice - apparently recent research has shown that 80% of liice are immune to the current chemcial treatments.

Am strangely excited by it as now I can finally get dd1's hair cut!

Somebody recommended the Nitty Gritty repellent spray which I think we are going to try. Apparently you use it every couple/few of days or something.

Surfermum, perhaps you could send you dsd home armed with some bits and pieces to help herself (as already suggested)
