I hate sinuses - TMI!

I'm a teacher and EVERY year at the beginning of term I suffer!

My nose has been blocked for 2 weeks. It is so bad that NOTHING is shifting the mucus. I have tried steam, hot drinks, drugs, sprays - you name it, I've tried it.

My head hurts i have pressure across the nasal bridge, above the eyes and at the sides of my temple. My voice is muffled, I can't make certain sounds (m, n, g) very well which is awful when trying to teach phonics or read a story. Sometimes when talking and when swallowing, it feels like a vacuum is being created and I is like choking slightly. It makes me cough (not a throat or chest cough) because it's though sounds get lost or stuck. I find it really difficult to explain.

When I swallow it's as though a block of mucus is stuck above the throat at the back of my nose and the other day I could feel a lump of mucus trickling down my throat. When I opened wide, a huge lump of green mucus was blocking the back of my throat. This made me gasp and feel like I was choking.

Also, now I have come down with an infection in both eyes. I have drops for them and the pharmacist said to go to GP if it isn't working within 2 days.

Should I see my GP about my sinuses? In the past they have been great but to get a same day appointment requires me to ring up, the receptionist to get GP to ring back, GP rings back and decided if an appointment is necessary. If not, i could be waiting up to 2 weeks for an after school appointment.

And now my ears are hurting slightly. Sad

oh gosh, yes go see the GP. At worst reassurance and help with syptoms... and best helping clear up the infection.

Total sympathy, I have sinusitis last year for the first time and I seem to be susceptible now - awful!!! Entire head feels liek its throbbing with snot scum!

Are you off work? Surely kiddies shouldn;lt be exposed?

Unfortunately work is not making it easy for me to be off!

Last year I went back after 9 months maternity and I came down with EVERYTHING - 2 x throat infections, 2 x chest infections, bronchitis, ear infection, influenza, 2 x stomach bugs, vertigo and a severe allergic reaction to penicillin! This ultimately meant I went over my 'allowance' of sick days (despite entitlement to 6 months full pay sick leave!?!?) and I had to have an 'interview' triggered by my LEA. My Head was sympathetic (or so she seemed) and I was very clear that on every occasion I had medical evidence to show I had visited a GP and received treatment - apart from the stomach bugs; afterall, who visits a GP when sick and have the runs??? I was mortified to see that I could end up disciplined for too much time off and if I worked where my husband does, i would have been sacked before now!!! After my interview, the school business manager (glorified secretary) put up a piece of paper detailing the 'cost' to school for sickness, maternity etc, etc. it did not go down well and it immediately came down when people complained that we were being made to feel guilty. The sickness in the school last yer was so bad that we had an emdemic of illness and the school phoned the local health team to find out if we needed to shut for a deep clean. Every class was missing about half their students over a three week period!!

So this term the first thing the Head did was to 'talk' to us about absence and the 'interview' YET states that to 'please, please' stay away until 48 hours about the last bout of sick or diahorrea before returning to work!?!? No win situation I'm afraid.

I don't like being at school and I am well aware of spreading the germs but I can't see the GP giving me a sick note either for having a blocked nose.

Full sympathies. I suffer even after two nose ops, sinus flushing and tonsils out. Get it investigated, you don't have to life like that. In meantime, two things might alleviate it ... Garlic capsule daily and antihistamine .. Takes swelling down.

Good luck!

Sympathies here from someone who's suffered this for 15 years. Have you considered using manuka honey as a preventer. I turned to this 6 months ago and it actually works for me. Get well soon op
