Without wishing to consult doctor google... what does this mean?

Appt was a bit rushed today so not entirely sure what the nurse said. Something about possible infection?

I do have an appt with my usual GP on thurs and I will tell her what the nurse said (was at walk in clinic today so won't have got the notes transferred) - is there anything particular I should be asking?

These are just general signs that indicate infection. They may put you on broad spectrum antibiotics there and then. I'd ask them to send a sample off for culture so they can determine exactly which antibiotics the infection is susceptible to. They should do that as a matter of course.

Oh, thanks :)

The nurse said something about 'possible' infection as they were only slight traces and said to get plenty of fluid (I assume to flush it out?), and didn't mention ABs.

Fair enough. If it's only slight, you don't have any real symptoms and you don't have any underlying health issue that would mean UTIs are more of a problems for you, then that might well be fine. Still a good idea to mention it on Thursday though. Watch for symptoms too - urgency, pain, irritation when you wee. Good luck Smile

Also could be slight contamination of the specimen. It's very hard for us women to catch a truly sterile sample. If the pot catches your body then other minute amounts of secretion will cause contamination.

To get a clean catch wipe yourself with a wet wipe, wee a bit into the loo then catch the middle of the wee without allowing the container to touch you. Finish in the loo. Tricky...

If you do this at the surgery just before you see the GP he can re-dip it and then send it off if anything seen. I personally wouldn't want antibiotics unless strictly necessary. Otherwise next week you'll be posting about thrush!!!

Just an update as I saw GP today. Mentioned what nurse had said and described symptoms again. Gave another sample (as Matilda suggested avoiding skin etc so thank you for advice :)) and infection markers were much higher. So I have been given ABs (not worried about trush though as they've never caused it before, touch wood!)

She is sending the sample off for cultures too.

She was concerned about the pain though and various gynae symptoms that she said would not be related to a UTI, so is referring me for an ultrasound.
