Both ears blocked- aaaggghhh

It started two weeks ago with wax build up in one ear. Put olive oil in and hoped it would go away. My ears are both now fully blocked and feel whooshy is the best way to describe it, it feels as though I'm under water. How am I going to work/hold normal conversations? I'm going to ring first thing to see if nurse can syringe them both, but any suggestions in the meantime?

Gaaah its bloody horrible! You can get stuff from the chemists to help unblock them - like ear drops. Optrex I think? But stringing works best. They normally make you see a dr first to confirm they need syringing and then wait a week while you use olive oil. But you shouldn't need to wait in between if you've already done it for a week.

Don't want to add to your misery OP , but I had this and it rumbled on for the best part of three months! Had my ears syringed twice and still nothing. Finally popped on their own three months later going down the motorway! I feel your pain... I work with children and couldn't hear them.

GP I'm afraid, they won't clear with just olive oil.
I get this about once a year and GP has given me some prescription stuff to try.
One is Otomise and the other is called Locorten. Both work well.

Will see if can get in at GPs. Had a job interview last week only able to hear out of one ear, start this week and will be using the phone quite a bit with both ears blocked- boo hoo,....

Where are you op?

Look up Clear ear clinic on google.

They do ear irrigation and can sort you out straight away without the need for drops.
It does cost £60 but I think it's worth it.

Good luck.

Thanks. Have bought Otrivine nasal spray which a friend said her GP recommended and worked for her ears. Seems strange but will give it a go.
Ears syringed on Thursday. I would do it myself if I could the way I feel at the moment!! Maybe could rig up a watering can.....
