In agony. Any dentists about?

I banged my top front tooth about five weeks ago. At the time it hurt for a bit but then seemed to get better. However, the last few days it's been agony.

My dentist said any damage wouldn't show up on an xray for a few months and to just see how it goes.

I cannot handle this pain for one more day.

What do I do? What are my options? Also, what pain killers can I take whilst breastfeeding?

I'm so scared.

if it's unbearable now then go to a local walk-in centre if you have one or urgent treatment centre, they should at least be able to give you painkillers

first thing in the morning ring your dentist and get an emergency appt.

Sounds like the pulp of the tooth may be inflamed. .I think you can take codeine when breastfeeding..do check that though. You need a dental appointment though.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 20:20

Definitely call your dentist..either in morning or they will have an out of hours.number on their answering machine.

TheDetective · 12/09/2013 20:22

Don't take codeine when BF, please. :)

A&E would (and has been) my port of call for out of hours pain that can't be resolved (or at least dulled somewhat) with OTC pain relief.

Or a walk in centre. Depends what you have in your area.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 20:23

Yes..dont then

I am not medical.and wasnt sure..I just knew I was prescribed it when pregnant. That's why I said check :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 20:24

I see the rules on codeine changed this year

Sorry for giving poor advice

dogsagoodun · 12/09/2013 20:53

Thanks all. I am so worried that.they're going to tell me I'm going to lose the tooth. I'm just.about to start some major orthodontic work.

It's all such a mess.

No you shouldn't lose it..it may need root treatment (although I am not a dentist) which isn't as bad as it sounds..don't worry about losing it..I have root.treated front tooth.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 20:57

Root canal.treatment I mean.

And it may not even need that. So panic not.:)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 20:57

(Not a dentist but have worked for one for a long time and also had front tooth issues myself)

dogsagoodun · 12/09/2013 21:02

Thank you Fanjo. I've got myself into a right state. It's so hard to think straight with the pain.

I know...have you at least taken some paracetamol?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 21:05

NHS direct might be able to advise on painkillers. Or your dentists out of hours service

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 21:08

I think they would see you if you are.in such pain. Or do phone them first thing in morning. Don't worry too much though..they will fix you :)

dogsagoodun · 12/09/2013 21:08

Yes, taken paracetamol. Thank you. I appreciate you being here tonight.

Any time :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/09/2013 21:13

Hopefully someone medical will see this and advise on painkillers

Willdoitinaminute · 12/09/2013 22:46

As far as I know you can take Ibuprofen during bf, 600mg every 6 hrs will take the edge off it. You can also take paracetamol but stagger them with Ibuprofen. If you take both together they wear off at the same time. Prop yourself up to sleep. your blood pressure goes up in your head when you lie flat and intensifies pain.
Sounds like nerve is dying although it may settle with Ibuprofen. If its stops you sleeping then generally prognosis not good. However unless you have fractured the root then root treatment is possible. They may delay ortho treatment until the tooth has settled.

AutumnStar · 12/09/2013 22:55

Don't worry. Try swilling some salt water and maybe oil of clove? Heard that helps. I also found rubbing tiger balm onto my skin next to the tooth helps with pain.

You will probably need a root canal. It's nowhere near as bad as you'd think. You don't feel a thing, it just takes ages.
