I suspect I have both.
A failed root filling has just led to me having a front molar pulled out.
God I'm too young for this!

Is anyone around to talk about bridges versus dental implants and finding a better dentist (I think mine's a bit long in the tooth in more senses than one)?

Yours waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off....

I have crap teeth, and suffered gum recession from age 40. I had a sore patch on my gums and thought I had an ulcer. When I looked in the mirror I could see the root of the tooth showing through ,

Aaaargh.

Anyway we lived in the USA and thank God had good dental insurance because I have had had everything done to my teeth: periodontal surgery, crowns, root canal work, bridge...everything except implants. My teeth look good but they are held together with metal and porcelain!

Back in the UK now and I have a great private dentist. This is my indulgence and he doesn't mess about with my teeth too much.

only one
See my post above.
Don't brush too hard. Brush in circular motion rather than up and down.
See a hygienist and have them cleaned regularly.

Make sure you have a good diet and healthy lifestyle

Gum recession may slow down. Specialist periodontist can do a tissue transplant and take flesh from the roof of your mouth and stick it on the gums...but it is cosmetic really.

I had the roots of my teeth cleaned...ugh, they peel back the gums and scrape underneath.it was the most horrible experience I have ever had. I think the Dentist got a thrill from doing it....

Thanks travelled. That doesn't sound pleasant at all!! Did it hurt? Do the gums just go back to normal after they have been peeled back? How did I get to this stage :( would pregnancies have made it worse ?

I think some people are more disposed to receeding gums than others .
If that's any comfort .

I'm choosing to believe it anyway ,I honestly don't think my dental care or diet is so much worse than other people .And I've never smoked .

And feeling guilty and responsible for it is p*ing me off .

This is a bit of a dental related AIBU!

I had an appointment to see the dental hygienist this week. I have been to see them before. I arrived at 4.15pm for a 4.20pm appointment. Am waiting around until 4.30pm. I understand it is the end of the day so you do get delayed getting to see them. She cleans and polishes my teeth for a total of 8 minutes. I go and pay, it costs £35. I ask the receptionist how long is the session meant to be. Apparently £35 is for "up to 20 minutes".
She is a good hygienist, but 8 minutes, I managed to get out of my scheduled appointment on time, but with a delayed start. Would I be reasonable to complain about the brevity of the service? It looked like I was the last but one appointment on a Friday afternoon if that helps?

It is tricky as I worry that by making a complaint, I am at the mercy of and it could impact the future service I receive from the dentist and the hygienist but this is IMHO is taking the p155!

Would be grateful for your views. Before making a considered decision on what to do next...

Hi there

What kind of filling did you have behind your front tooth?
