Molar pregnancy and chemotherapy

Hi, posting this for my DSis, who is undergoing chemo treatment for a complete molar pregnancy diagnosed in May. She is in Ireland and has nobody to share experiences with and I am so worried about her mental health. It is such a little understood/experienced condition, and her consultant is one of very few in Ireland with any knowledge of molar pregnancy.

Has anyone here had treatment and happy to share experiences? I can then point her in the direction of this thread so she can see real stories so she doesn't feel so alone. And I can stop feeling so helpless and do even this very small thing for her Sad

Hi, I had low dose chemo (methotrexate) for a molar pregnancy. It made me feel very tired and under the weather but still able to function normally. In very few cases, full chemo (hair loss etc) is needed. Because it is quite rare, people normally travel for treatment and you end up seeing the same faces and forming bonds with others who have gone through the same experience.
Your sister will also need time to grieve for the pregnancy and baby she was expecting to have. In my case,I thought I was 16 weeks pregnant (the first scan was booked for that week). Your emotions are as raw as for a miscarriage but then you have chemo on top of that.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. A subsequent pregnancy puts you at increased risk of a repeat but the risk is low. Just over a year after diagnosis, I conceived again and was lucky enough to have beautiful DD.
Just be there to support your sister and allow her to vent when she is feeling low.
I hope all goes well.

Thank you potcallingkettle, I'm so happy you have recovered and have such a positive story. DSis stopped first course of chemo last week but her levels have gone up again so she's pretty depressed about that. Such a cruel, scary and confusing condition, I'm so proud of how brave she is being.
