Gallbladder anyone?

I went to my GP with vague nausea and abdo pain symptoms and when she felt my stomach my gallbladder was extremely tender. She thinks it could just be a virus but also said that I am a textbook case for gallstones.

I've googled this and can't help feeling a bit Sad cos although I do fit most of the criteria, at the top of the list is an obese BMI which I have never had. In fact it's currently at the low end of normal.

However I do have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. It is well controlled and at the moment my TSH is actually a bit below what it should be, but I wonder if there is a connection - thyroid issues seem to affect so many other things. Anyone out there with a similiar combination of conditions? Am I right to blame my thyroid for this as well as everything else? Grin

I don't know anything about Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, but I had gallstones a few years ago. I wasn't obese, but a bit overweight. I ended up haveing my GB taken out along with 54 stones! No problems since then. If it is gallstones, having the whole thing out is the sensible option!

Thanks for replying Avon - it was feeling a bit lonely on this thread Grin

Do you mind me asking what your symptoms were and how long it took between first symptoms and having your GB removed?

Hi Smile. I first had an attack (biliary colic) when DS was 8 weeks old and had it removed when he was 13 months old. It took a while for me to go to the GP, then they suggested it was indigestion Hmm then the attacks subsided. When they came back I went to the GP again and was sent for an ultrasound at which gallstones was confirmed and I went on a v low fat diet. I had a date for surgery when DS was 11 months but I had to cancel due to a family disaster, so in reality I would have had it taken out 2 months earlier than I did. Haven't looked back, though!

That's interesting. Not too long really between diagnosis and the op, though it probably didn't feel like that at the time Sad I'm glad you feel so much better now.

I haven't had a diagnosis and it could be just a virus at this stage (my symptoms are just nausea and abdo pains - esp when the GP stuck her fingers in my GB - ouch!!). But thanks for sharing your experience.

Oh sorry, I misread your post Blush

I thought your DS was 8 months when you had your first attack, not 8 weeks! Sorry. That is actually quite a long time. Blush

Yes, there is a link. I have Hashimotos, barrett esophagus, gall stones and kidney stones. You'll find loads of info on the Thyroid UK website.
