Trapped nerve, does massage help?

Yakky · 07/09/2013 23:53

Have developed a trapped nerve in my back and am feeling worn out with it. Even sleep is hard work as it is so painful.
I have always had niggles in upper and lower back due to strees I think. Would having a regular massage help?
Just feel a bit unsure about where to go for one asI don't really fancy being pummelled to death.
Any advice?

massage can yes, as can physiotherapy.

all would depend on what is trapping the nerve.

I would see a physiotherapist first. Plus it doesn't sound as though you would like massage (I'd hate it) so there must be an alternative.

You could do worse than try one of these chaps. In many cases more effective than a physio.

An LSSM trained massage therapist keeps me moving and is responsible for me still being able to walk and cycle despite being told by the NHS that I need a knee replacement!

I would be wary. It could make things worse. I would see a physio first. I assume you are taking ibuprofen to reduce the swelling & paracetamol for the pain? You could replace the paracetamol with co-codamol for 3 days. You can buy 8/500mg over the counter.

Long term, what about Yoga? I find it really helps me relax - body and mind.

An taking ibuprofen paracetamol and solos doll kindly given to me by my mum.Am also using a tens machine and hot water bottle.
Nothing is working though.
Have heard that deep massage might help. Have never had a massage before but willing to try anything as my leg is going numb now.
