Spots around mouth

Hello,
I am now 42, and am suffering from a painful spotty rash on one side of my mouth.
When I was in my early 20s I started getting very tiny, fluid filled blisters, only one at a time, every couple of months or so. This pattern continued for 10 years or so.
In the last couple of years I have had constant little blisters, which then scab over and clear, whilst more appear.
In the last month it has become much worse, much more red, covering a bigger area, and uncomfortable, and I am now losing sleep, and feeling very lacking in confidence over them.
I have been to the doctors countless times, who have swung between cold sores, and various other diagnoses, but they don't really seem to know, and neither is the problem getting sorted. They have finally referred me to a dermatologist, but this could take 8 weeks.
Having tried various antibiotic creams, anti fungal creams, Aciclovir creams and tablets, nothing is working. And it's getting worse!

Any ideas please?

No expert but didn't want to read and run.

My first thought was herpes of some sort but I would like to think that your gp had also thought of that.

Could it be a vitamin deficiency? Have you had blood tests?

I seem to remember that vit d deficiency can cause rashes round the mouth.

Sounds uncomfortable and unpleasant for you. Hope more people pop up with some more ideas.

Shh ((hug))

Thanks 😊
The docs have considered herpes/cold sore things, but because it doesn't respond to any of the anti viral treatments that I've tried they seem to have moved on from that.

Sounds like it could be perioral dermatitus which is irritated by skin care and especially flouride from toothpaste. Give this a go,no product just wash around your mouth with warm water and cotton wool and easier said than done avoid toothpaste around the area and if some gets there wash off straightaway. Its a bugger to get rid of but if it is that it should start to clear in a week or so,

Perioral dermatitis.

I had it on and off for years, since being pregnant. Apparently it is often triggered by hormonal changes.

Go to Gp. You will need a 3 month course of anti biotics to shift it. My Gp didn't know what it was.

Google it and check if is that, but the symptoms sound just like pd to me.

Steroids creams will make it worse in the Lomg term. Don't let your GP fob you off.

If they aren't sure then get a referrL to a dermatologist.

Thanks :)

It first started around the time of my first pregnancy, so possibly hormonal changes.

Looked in Tesco for a non fluoride toothpaste but couldn't find one - any one recommend one?

I have been referred to a dermatologist, just waiting for the appointment to come though now.
