Endometriosis

I had yet another gynaecology appointment today and the scan showed I have another uterine polyp and it's now looking like I do have endometriosis after all. I'm scared about having a laparoscopy under GA in a few weeks. Also, could anyone recommend a good book on the endometriosis diet? I've had a quick look on Amazon and there are quite a few! Any 'top tips' on living with the condition too, please?

Despite all the negativity on MN the mirena coil is by far the most effective way of controlling endometriosis. It wasn't around when my endo was at its worst but since having DS I have had one (9yrs) and it has been life changing.
As for diet it is very trial and error. Endo is often found in the small and large intestine and is very oestrogen sensitive. Foods which contain oestrogen such as meats from animals fed with hormones to accelerate maturity and others which are chemically close to oestrogen can aggravate the bowel. I am particularly sensitive to orange juice concentrate probably the colouring additive.
The Endometriosis Society website hosts a forum you may find useful.

Thank you for your response. They are quite keen to put a coil in during the procedure - I am less keen! I don't really eat red meat. Looking to buy organic produce and cut down dramatically on dairy and caffeine.

Actually chicken was the worst offender. Organic chicken and eggs do not seem to cause trouble. I tend to cook from scratch to avoid problems.
I would definitely try the coil. Endometriosis is an awful condition. I had a number of different treatments including several surgical clear outs and Zoladex injections. Mirena is by far the best. Before mirena I had chronic anaemia as a result of prolonged heavy bleeding each month. In the last 9 years I have used a handful of mini tampons and have never needed anything more than a panty liner for protection. As for painkillers paracetamol are more than adequate.
