Steroid injection into SI joint - what to expect?

Hi, I'm having a local anaesthetic and steroid injection in to my left SI joint next week for diagnostic purposes.

Has anyone had one and can advise on levels of pain in the week to follow please? Just so that I know what to expect.

DH is going abroad on business a few days later and his boss has suggested changing his flights so that he can stay with me, which is lovely but I don't want to cause inconvenience if I'm going to be fine.

TIA.

Haven't specifically had SI injections so please feel free to disregard. However have had at least 4 lots of spinal injections. Varying amount of prep and paperwork each time, lay face down on bed, usually live X-ray, or, better, CT scanner used to guide to the exact spot. Little bit of local then some pressing and ok, it does feel like a needle but its not that bad. Maybe 10 mins once ready to start. Once only I got a shooting electric shock type pain, that was nerve root, though.

You can potter around normally afterwards although may be advised to take it a bit easy. Tbh I've had different advice every time!

I've never had significant pain afterwards, or, unfortunately that much benefit. Last injection did help a bit, though but took nearly two weeks to kick in. Pretty sure you will be ok but guess you could call his secretary to ask?

It's a funny old business. Las chap was v honest that its a bit of a mystery to them, too. You could have no effect three times then fantastic pain relief on the fourth.

Good luck!

I had steroid injections into a prolapsed disc in my neck. It was a lot less painful afterwards than it was before!

I was woozy the day of the op but fine afterwards - I went back to work the next day. You could call the consultant and check if a SI is likely to be differnt?

I think it varies from person to person. All my intra articulate steroid injections have been horrifically painful for the first 48 hours.

Thanks all. I'll just wait and see then.
