Question about the morning after pill

Excuse the name change. I've been using condoms since the birth of my little one 13 months ago as I'm still bfing and tbh the pill always made me feel a bit depressed. But last night we had an accident. Ironically I have an appointment made next week to go and speak about contraception , but I've made an emergency one for later this morning. If I take the morning after pill, can I get the regular pill prescribed and start taking it immediately afterwards? And will the morning after pill bring on a period? I'm going away in three weeks and (shallow I know) I don't want to have to deal with a period while I'm away. I'm dreading asking for it tbh as I'm at a new surgery and no one I've seen there has been all that nice. The can't refuse to prescribe it can they? Last night I was not really too panicky but the thought of another child has suddenly made me realise just how much I can't even entertain being pregnant again.

no, they won't refuse. BTW you can get the MAP at Boots but it will cost, might as well get it from the NHS.

can't guarantee that your periods will settle immediately on the 'main' pill but they should be very light and no trouble on your holiday.

just ask. You are an adult making a responsible adult decision.

Also if you are sure that you are finished your family, look into the snip for him or you.

MAP can muck up your cycle and make your next period come early or up to about 5 days late.

I don't know if taking it makes any difference to when you can start taking other contraceptive pills, but the GP/family planning nurse should be able to give you clear information about when you can start and whether it is immediately effective in these circumstances.

Thank you both. I got it'll took over an hour as the first gp I saw (who was bloody lovely actually) said he didn't prescribe it, but sent me to someone who did. He also gave me 3 months worth of Yasmin to try. The nurse I saw tried to convince me to get a coil put in then and there but I balked a bit, I'll consider it for a few months time. I feel a bit lightheaded and achy but I assume that's normal. I thought I'd feel relieved but I feel a bit conflicted actually, hopefully that's just sleep deprivation and hormones.
