Dads skin cancer

My Dad who is 65 has had 3 lots of skin cancer on his face in the last 5 years. 2 basal carcinomas and one squamous cell. They have all been removed and skin grafts done on 2 of them. He now has 2 new places appear one on his wrist and one on his face. He is waiting to see his dermatologist. He is getting very anxious and that he is going to get places appear constantly. He also has a very black mole on his tummy that the specialist just wants to watch. Does anyone have any experience with reacurrent skin cancer? I am also concerned for my own skin as I have the same skin as him and have been quite silly in the past about sitting in the sun. Is this type of skin cancer likely to run in families?

Does anyone know if any dietry changes that may help?

Skin types do run in families from their genes. But that does not mean you will be vulnerable to skin cancers or any other skin complaints in your family.
I am the only one in my family to have had a black melanoma. My parents and SIS have been in the sun abroad more then I have.
But you may be at a higher risk for the same type of skin cancer as your Dad. They are, however, not the dangerous types.

Keep an eye on your skin and get somebody to check your back for you.

One of dd2's friends is from Australia, and her dad has recurring basal and squamous (I think) carcinomas - he's very fair, very freckled, and has clearly been exposed to a lot of sun in the past.

His wife tells me its a nuisance more than anything else - he has to have minor operations every year or two to remove them, but nothing has spread elsewhere nor is it likely to.

My own dad has had a squamous cell carcinoma frozen off (on his forehead) well over ten years back, and has had no recurrance. So I guess its a bit unpredictable. I've been very silly in the past with sun, and as I'm in my 50s now I sort of almost expect some sort of skin cancers at some point - but hopefully they will be the sort your dad has, ie not life threatening.

I don't think dietary changes make any difference, tbh, but I'm no expert!
