Pain in hand

I came off my bicycle a week past Sunday (stupid fall wasn't going too fast, clipped wheels with another rider and spectacularly hit the deck!) anyway I landed on my right side but put out my left hand to break the fall as well iykwim? I managed to finish the bike ride (around 20 miles after the fall) although the hand was sore and I struggled to use the brake with the whole hand. I hit my right hand as well but that didn't hurt as much and just felt bruised. 2 days later the hand was still very painful so I went to a minor injuries clinic and had it x-rayed which didn't show any fractures and I was assured it would feel better. Now over a week from them and if anything the pain is getting worse. I'd say the thumb and forefinger are fine but I am getting sharp/stabbing pain in other fingers/heel of hand, I have little grip and fine motor skills without experiencing pain, the pain seems to be radiating into my wrist at times and I'm having to take regular painkillers to little avail to stop the pain being so bad I randomly burst into tears. Is there any point in going back to see the doctors, I don't want to waste anyone's time especially if its just a bruise or something. Thanks for any help in advance.

Inflammation in your carpal tunnel area would fit with these signs. I would go back to the doctor, but in the mean time regular anti-inflammatories.

Definitely go back and ask for a second opinion. It sounds as though you have done something significant to your hand.

I think you need another x-ray. Some fractures of the small bones of the hand can take up to 2 weeks to show on xray

Thank you, I'm taking regular paracetamol and diclofenac with the occasional codeine when necessary, it doesn't hurt too much at rest but by god when I try and do something with it that doesn't suit I know about it and the pain brings tears to my eyes. Sounds like I wouldn't be wasting anyone's time if I went to see my GP so I'll make an appointment ASAP (probably be a week on Friday before I get to see anyone!!)

I would go to a minor injuries where they have x-ray on tap rather than my GP, to be honest. Take a good book for the wait.

That's where I went last week. Will I not get raised eyebrows and rolly eyes for going back to the same place with the same complaint?

Probably not. But even if some of them do roll their eyes, they'll still x-ray your hand, and you'll know whether you were right to go back. :)

I fell over in the snow back in the winter. Put my right hand out to steady myself.
It still hurts when I do something like push a door open, or lean on my hand with it at right angle to my arm. IYSWIM
