Can't see the picture - have you been to the GP?

I went to my GP worried about skin cancer - turned out to be ringworm Grin

top right - under the my mumsnet link I think there is an option to do with the profile - try that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/09/2013 13:31

I think your gp is the best person to speak to about this. I hope it is something nice and simple :)

throckenholt · 04/09/2013 13:32

cross post.

I would be concerned about that - I would try hard to see a gp - any gp - sooner - I am guessing they would refer you to a dermatologist. Given it has been there two weeks I wouldn't want to wait another two before getting it checked out.

How big is it ? Did it appear like that or has it changed over the last two weeks.

amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 13:33

oh i know, they are just so bloody hard to get into to, she asked me if it was emergency on the phone so i explained what it was and she told me it was urgent and i could come in a week on friday otherwise see my chemist. i hope so too, thanks xx

OP posts:
amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 13:38

it appeared half the size as a pale pink brown mark, since then it has grown to this, its nearly an inch across. it dosnt itch or hurt. but i am constantly aware of it. x

just read your other thread. I would go back to gp this afternoon, say you have seen a chemist and they said it needed to be seen by a doctor. Tell her given the way it has changed you really feel it needs to be seen as soon as possible (no reason not to make it sound as urgent as you can - just to get past the receptionist !).

Alternative might be to ask for an appointment with a nurse if that is quicker, and then once there push very hard for a gp to look at it. I am fairly certain they would refer you to a dermatologist for further investigation - you just need to get into the system to get the ball rolling.

I hope it turns out to be no big deal, but I would certainly want it looked at soon.

amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 13:41

thanks throckenholt you right. im gunna phone them and tell them i am really worried about it, no point taking chances. i hope it is just something silly but cant be too careful, thanks for replying to me, ill let you know what they say x

I've had a look and it seems like the mole my sister had on her back; it was removed under local anaesthetic and she has had no further issues with it

I would ring gp every morning to see if I could get a cancellation in order to set your mind at rest...or a walk-in clinic?

amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 13:50

the weird thing is there was no mole there to begin with, but if i look closely theres a tiny black dot in the middle. it literally just appeared from nowherets bizzare, i have been burnt there pretty badly in the past and i am a red head with plenty freakles, probaby wasnt a great move :/
ive just rang doctors, have no cancellations for today but ive got this friday at 3,20 which is better than next week i suppose x

OP posts:
throckenholt · 04/09/2013 13:59

at least it isn't too long to wait - try an forget about it until then.

missbopeep · 04/09/2013 13:59

where is it on your body? That makes a difference.

If it's where you get the sun- arms, legs, face, neck, etc then go to the drs pronto.

amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 14:05

its on the inside of my hip which is where i got burnt the last time, went for a sunbed before holiday and my entire legs hips and groin were really burnt, i could barely walk for two days! was stupid i know. since then i have been on beach and out in garden in bikini where that area is exposed, not been as burnt but still go slightly red. x

Well, I can assure it is not a black melanoma, as I had one - big round raised, shiny, black and hard like a small helmet on my arm.

Mine was quite advanced by the time it was noticed, but was caught just in time. I did not notice it before it was big.

Your pic does not look anything like mine, though.

amandajgoodman · 04/09/2013 16:02

God how are you now? Your so lucky to have caught it in time. Theres so many different types it can be confusing about whats normal and whats not. My friends mum had a red mark on her face which got bigger over time. It wasnt raised but red and angry looking. She has terrible scars but shes a survivor :) think thats why ive got so scared. :( x

It's hard to tell what is bruising from you trying to look at it, and what is the original mark.

I would be surprised at a skin cancer growing that fast, from nothing to an inch in 2 weeks.

However you do need to get it looked at as soon as poss just in case.

I think the guidelines may be to refer you under the 2 week rule if it is a neoplasm (new growth/thing) so don't be too alarmed if they do that.

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

EnlightenedOwl · 04/09/2013 20:49

posted on your other thread Smile

digerd · 05/09/2013 07:26

The dangerous skin cancers are the melanomas - the black ones being the worst.
Mine was taken out 30 years ago, and apart from another on my back which was only in the early stages of changing into abnormal cells, I have not had anymore.
I am not fair skinned, it did not bleed nor was it itchy. I just thought it was a very big black mole.
