Is this athletes foot or something else??

Itchiness between little toe and the next toe starts 4 weeks ago. After a few days took a quick look and saw white flaky skin between toes. Found some of DHs Athletes Foot powder in the cupboard and started to use it. Itching eased off for a week or so.

Then last week it started again. So I have been using the powder again. However the itch is worse than ever (gets worse when feet warm). Itching so bad last night it woke me up and kept me awake. Today my toe is hurting, dark red and toe nail feels odd - like it may be detaching.

Had a good look tonight and I have tiny fluid filled bubbles all over the top of the toe. In between the toes weeping blisters abd huge blisters that pop and bleed. It hurts.

Is this Athletes Foot or something else? The powder seems to not be working this time.

Any suggestions?

Could it be pompholyx (type of blistery excema on hands and feet)?

Off to google you suggestion Vecta. Smile

Its so sore I think I may have to see the GP tomorrow. I would not normally go for something like this but my toe is a purply red and the blisters huge between the toes now. So big they push my toes apart - until they pop and bleed.

Its grim! Blush

Poor you, sounds horrible. Itchiness is so difficult to deal with. I have had years of excema and it is so hard not to scratch. GP sounds like a good idea if the blistering is that bad.

LickleLemon · 03/09/2013 23:26

I have looked at images of Pompholyx and the blisters look similar but mine are on a white flakey skin (where its not broken and red).

Mind over matter not to scratch!!!

The other name for pomphplix is dishydrotic eczema and mine is on white flaky skin as well. I have had those big blister under the toes and also very deep under the skin. Eumovate is a steroid cream available over the counter which does seem to keep it at bay as well a using a moisturising cream oil. I have found pure coconut oil helps with the dryness. If you want a stronger steroid cream you will need to go to the doctor

I went to the GP on Friday and she said it is athletes foot. Prescribed me Lamsil cream.

So far no difference at all.

Am sat up near to tears to be honest. I am in so much pain. When I walk the bottom of my foot feels swollen and hurts. Its like walking with a tennis ball in my sock. It just looks bubbly on the bottom of my foot but its awful. The itch is almost a sting. I am also having problems walking as the pain is so bad.

The Dr said to give this cream at least a week but that it could take 2 weeks to clear up the problem.

However, there has been absolutely no improvement. I just dont know what to do with myself.

Has anyone else had Athletes Foot as severe as this?? I cannot believe how awful it actually is. I usually grin and bare stuff - but struggling with this.

Apologies for sounding so pathetic.Sad

You could maybe speak to a pharmacist. If you could wear sandals then they could take a look & see if there is anything OTC you could try. I find them very helpful for things like that.

The only other thing I can think is chilblains. I had they ones & they itched like mad.

Give the lamisil a chance - it works.

Usually get athletes foot on one foot only, and blisters. Usually caused by heat, and my skin splits between little toe. Generally just leave it be, but lamisil is good stuff. Can take 1 to 2 weeks to clear. Any signs of it next time, use the lamisil.

Thank you for your sympathy.

Am up again with the itch from hell but comforted by being told the Lamsil will work eventually.
