Allergy to allergy meds?

DD (19) had itchy rash all over her body on Saturday, so gave her Piriton and Eurax creme. Fast forward to Sunday am and I bump into her and DP in Asda car park - he has had to take her to OOH doc as she now had develop blg raised blotches all over her body. Prescribed Eumovate and told her to take generic antihistamine. On Monday, no better - blotches bigger and hands swollen - so DD phones GP and I go and pick up a prescription for something else. Last night - swollen soles of feet, swollen lips and rash worse on legs (better on trunk). This morning she is still unwell and we are going to GP at 10am.

Just wondered if you can be allergic to allergy meds.

Also last weekend she had bladder infection and was prescribed meds for that - but spent the evening vomiting. Do you think it could be those meds she is allergic to. She has not eaten anything out of the ordinary....Hopefully GP will be able to sort it, as worried about swollen lips. I kept going in and checking her last night.

It sounds like a rash I get, which basically gets worse in the way you describe so it may just have been taking it's course.

I don't generally react to the meds, but if your body is already in overdrive it is possible. The only thing that works for me is strong steroids. Things like piriton on absolutely max dosage make the itch better but don't generally get rid of it. I had an epi pen at school, but never had to use it. It has come and gone since my early teens, but in total I've only had bad reactions probably under 10x. The last time I had it (I was 39) it lasted for a week and I didn't really sleep at all in that time. I've never found out what causes it to be honest, possibly a reaction to a virus. It's so horrible. I hope your daughter gets well and it doesn't recur.

PS. Also it helps to crack down on it as soon as it appears, because the more it takes hold the worse it gets.

Thanks marigold. Got heavy dose of steroids for her and it has cleared up....for now.

Great. Yeah, they do work. Hope it doesn't recur. Mine stopped for ages but recurred after I had kids, very badly after c-section but couldn't take the steroids cos of breastfeeding Sad.
